Everyone I've seen spray them to match the car or silver to match the lights. Quite straight forward to do by all accounts. Halfrauds will mix a can of spray paint for you from the paint code. Rub down, prime with plastic primer, spray a few coats of your chosen colour, followed by a few coats of laquer. Not sure what the implications are of removing them altogether, apart from a gaping hole in the bumper.

Can't say I've ever seen a set of new STI rears for less than £200. Keep an eye on the for sale section and ebay, second hand ones do come up from time to time.

Must de-tango mine at some point

They lever out very easily with a flat head screwdriver, just be carefull and use a piece of cloth so you don't damage the paintwork!

Just take them out.I just have the hole on my typer and unless you have another parked by it you would think it was factory. What colour is your car?Mix a bit of paint(a drop) with 2 pac lacquer and colour code the orange on your lights until you can afford to change.
