Default STi6 spoiler...extra holes required for fitting??

Finally got hold of an STi6 replica rear wing off ebay for my MY94, I've heard people talk about how they have had to drill extra holes in the middle of the bootlid to secure it properly... I want to have a go at fitting it myself so can anyone tell me if it does need the extra holes or if it will be fine with the standard 2 on each side...as I don't fancy doing it myself if it means drilling!! Cheers in advance!

James, depending where the spoiler was originally made, you might find it fits straight on, but two additional screws in the middle would make it more secure. Sometimes additional screws in the middle are necessary to ensure the spoiler is flush against the boot.

If you're not confident take it to a bodyshop. Could save you an expensive bill!

Best wishes

Thumbs up

Test fit it.............ensure it fits flat and where you want it. If it does, no extra holes are needed.

Use a bead of Puriflex, (Cicaflex) around all bolt holes and all the way round the base of the spoiler. Tighten it down a bit at a time with the bolts in order, a bit like doing a cylinder head, so as not to distort it. ie: loosely tighten first then same one on opposite side, move to second, then same one opposite side etc etc, finally fully tightening all 6. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

Wipe off excess sealant with PLENTY of paper towels soaked in white spirit.

Thanks very much guys, I'll try a test fitting this weekend and make a decision from there, don't think I would feel confident enough if more holes are required...another job for Scoobyclinic methinks!

Cheers again!

Wink

If you use either of those sealants I mentioned, you can take ALL the bolts out once it goes off, the spoiler won't shift!
