Stickered plates

Hi all. I'm trying to find a number plate that is a sticker to put on the bumper, like the WRC boys. One shop I went to said they're now illegal. Anyone know if that's right?

Halfords had plates you could stick on instead of screw on, but they were still the 'hard' type like regular ones. I'll check out the website, cheers.
