Unless you have sprayed metallic colours before, you will find it difficult to get the colour match right. Metallic paint is tricky, but practice makes perfect.

As has already been stated, preparation is very important, as is a good plastic primer.

You can buy two part paints from a decent paint mixing establishment. I believe you can get them in cans as well now, if you don't have a proper spray gun.

I've not sprayed all of the black bits on my car - just redone a few bits that were heavily stone chipped (cleaned them back to black plastic first). It didn't look too bad. Colour was OK, but I didn't get the laquer as I would have liked.

Has anyone tried painting the black plastic trims on the sills and under the bumper edges themselves? Can you literally buy some paint from your dealer and spray them? Do they need a lot of preparation first etc etc? I would like mine to be DBM like the car.

 

I had my whole car colour coded red, but saved loads of dosh by taking all the bits off myself: sills, mirrors, door handles and the bits under the rear bumper.
Total to prime and spray was £150.
I don't advise doing it yourself, as the proper paint is 2 part (Base and lacquer) and the aerosol cans you buy aren't. Hence you can see the bits a different shade in certain lights, eg: under street lights, strong sunshine etc.

 

make sure u use the right primer if u dont the paint will come off in no prime
