Default Wide arches on a classic

I'm constantly on the look out for a nice classic as since I've sold my blob Sti I have the impreza itch again already. I don't have masses of cash to buy a mint one but I'd like to put ABW wide arches on a classic as I think they look mean.
Here's the question: if I get a good mechanical one with scabby rear arches, do they get cut out at all for the wide arches or not? If so how much? I'm thinking I could get the rust out and my arches on at the same time whilst solving that problem. Anyone know anymore on this please?
Thanks
Michael

exactly what i'm thinking of doing with my rotten classic shell, but rather than go for the bolt on 200sx style go for a slightly larger standard style arch.

The rot often extends up towards the strut tops so be careful
