Reading Capello's comments on SSN this morning and I like the way he's speaking already. Have a read if you've not already.

He's no yes man and he won't take any sh*t from the FA or the players, perfect, I saw JT on Sky sports at the weekend, he was looking rather concerned to say the least when the captaincy we brought up, even if Becks get No 100 as capt I still think we could see a new long term capt, only time will tell.

I think the new capt will be from a choice of 4. Rio, Hargreaves, Gerrard and the outside shot due to age....Rooney. Terry isn't even a first choice any more IMHO. If King gets fit and plays a number of games I can see it being him and Rio.

Rio is my choice too. I think Capello is just media spinning at the moment, saying what we all want to hear but in all honesty I think hes probably already made his decision in the back of his mind.

Nowt wrong with those 4, I said it a few weeks back, Rooney will captain Man U and England one day, maybe in the near future, G Nev looks like he is coming to the end, there's no stand out Captain in the current England squad, always thought Terry was poor as Eng capt, too quiet.

Anyway I had the sh*t ripped out of me for that one, and expect it again, I think he would make an excellent capo, why not give it to him now, Capello is the type of manager to do this IMHO, queue the tide of abuse i'll get for that , he's this he's that, too gobby etc, he is by far the best player England has and has more passion and drive in his left foot than a lot of them in the last England squad.

The last sentence sums it up for me. Rooney would run through a brick wall for England. whenever he plays he gives his all. I also think say somebody like Gerrard at Liverpool he's the big fish in a small pond so when he comes to England he just doesn't have that character to impose on the squad. Rooney however when he plays for United or England walks out with zero fear and believing he's the main man.... you need that.

I hope NAF doesn't close this thread because I said something about Gerrard

Funkii, I have a feeling Rooneys captaincy chances might well be thwarted by Micah in the future tbh.

Wayne Rooney has captain the guys got one of the worst temperament in football has seen in the last world cup.Has far as John Terry goes anyone who thinks he doesn't care and deoesn't give his all look what happen in last years league cup against Arsenal you wouldn't find Rio Ferdinand doing that.I would be the first to admit that John Terry's form has not been that good this season but he has played with injurys when maybe he shouldn't have again i doubt if Rooney,Ferdinand or Gerrard would have.

Has to be Gerrard for me, I expected it last time under "dopeyginga" but for it only to be given to Terry, He leads LFC with pride and passion, no doubt it's what he needs to play with pride and passion for his country !

He doesn't bring that to England though. He's the main man at Liverpool and acts a such but with England he's not No 1 and goes into his shell. Has to be a United player for capt as they know they play for the biggest club in the world and carry themselves as such.

You're never as effective without Paul backing you up. Where is the other member of the Chelsea 2 when you need him

Like Lampard starting a scuffle then getting out when he realises JT's not there to look after him

Rooney wont get the armband IMO. He'll be over shadowed by Micah in the coming years I think. I think Rio will be the one who gets the armband for the time being
