precisely! He only scored 15 goals in the championship! 5th on the table of scorers. Birmingham have got the idea, 3.5 for cameron jerome from cardiff. scored more then AJ this year. he is 19 and plays for england under21s, much better idea im my mind.

for 8.5 id be wanting a guy who bags 20/30 in the championship surely?! and dont give me all that 'the championship is a tough league' stuff. I know it is tough to get out of, but he's gotta be banging them in for that sort of money

even old man Ade Akinbiyi managed to bag as many as AJ 8.5 my ***

Didnt AJ bag 20 goals in the prem league last year for a team who got relegated? not that bad at all, yes he scored a few penalties but he was the begger who made them

made them, you know, made the darting runs into the box giving defenders such a hard time they pulled him down (or he fell over his own feet but the outcome is the same) 8mil is a small price to pay for 20 goals a season in the premier league.

Shut you cake hole up mate...AJ played 23 games this season and scored 17 goals..so not a bad return really.....get your facts right and maybe you will get it right.

Money wise...8.5 million is alot but thats football these days as we know it.

AJ scored 22 prem goals last year and 34 in the championship the year before that so thats not bad really is it!!

I think he'll do alright. He makes a large percentage of his own goals (penalties or otherwise) but I'd like to see him in a team with other decent players who can provide a good level of service.

Best of luck to him.

Plus you always have Clinton!!! Never forget when he said he was a better striker than Owen. How he must have regretted that sentence.

Yeah we'll gloss over that

AJ is a decent striker. Watched him many times at Selhurst Park. He does have that little bit extra which is the difference between the Premiership and the Championship. He has very good pace, which does cause defenders problem. His reputation as a diver is very unfair - certainly not seen him do any worse than you see every week in the Premiership.

I think Palace were always going to struggle to keep him if they didn't go up this year. I think he'll do well if he goes back up to the Premiership.

.......now theres me thinking we were talking about the leagues.........15 goals in championship im afraid, im not trying to wind you up, just posting my thoughts, and the bare facts.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...rs/default.stm

and im afraid he played 30 league games (plus 3 as sub) so your wrong on both counts.

http://www.football-league.premiumtv...510323,00.html

so get off that high horse and let some of us have our reasonably well founded personal opinions please. perhaps you might like to read about your team before you leap down peoples throats.

15 goals from 30 games is good going IMO. thats the ratio of a prolific striker.

Cheers Joe - it comes from being a Palace supporter for the last 25 years! I remember when Malcolm Allison was manager! (the second time, not the first - I was about 5 at that time )

The money that players fetch these days is a bit mad, but there are now 3 premiership clubs offering £8.5m for AJ. I don't think they can all be wrong and I'm willing to bet that they know a fair bit more than we do!

Also bear in mind that he has struggled with injuries this year and that takes it toll. There is no substitute for playing regularly. That said though, you don't lose the talent over night and I'm sure that is why there are several takers for AJs services

I suspect that Simon Jordan is not the easiest chap to get on with sometimes (I vaguely remember him from my school days - he was in his final year, when I was just joining my senior school) and you do wonder what went on between Dowie and him. All this BS about going back up north to be with his wife and then he goes for the Charlton job, which is a whole 8 miles up the road!
