BORO born in 1986 - 3 years later Newcastle were up **** street!
Heading towards oblivion (1989 - 1992)
The Magpies tumbled back into the Second Division in 1989 and over the next three seasons found themselves in a perilous state. They had little money, star players headed south and crowds dwindled. Several managerial changes took place - Jim Smith and Ossie Ardiles could not stop the rot. With the club hovering on the brink of a further, potentially catastrophic, relegation Newcastle United needed a saviour. They not only found one, but two, as Sir John Hall and Kevin Keegan joined forces to salvage Newcastle's reputation.
So, it seems, BORO weren't the ONLY team who needed help in the 80's!!
The TOONS talk as though they have been a top team always ... well, I have news for them - they started rotting 50 years ago and haven't stopped!!

You really post complete and utter bollocks!
In 1990 we made the playoffs! In 1992 we beat you lot 3-1 in the League Cup at Awsome Park! In 1992/3 We led Div 1 from start to finish and won the 1st Div Championship and you were relegated! In 1993/4 we ended up 3rd in the EPL - you were in the First Division! You've never been 3rd (twice), or 2nd (twice), or 4th, or 5th or 6th or 7th... I wish there was a, shaking of head in disbelief at sheer ignorance, Smilie.
Oh and 37 years ago we became one of the few British Clubs to win a major European trophy - the one you failed to win - and the only Club in the North East!

PMSL are you lot squabbling over the scraps again
Let me see if I've got this straight, none of your lot, Smoggies, Mackems or Barcodes (all the same thing really) has ever won anything of note?
So you're all reduced to fighting amongst yourselves over who came 2nd in this year or 3rd in that

Newcastle are a bigger club than Middlesbro.
They finished far higher in the league, have a better stadium and will continue to be a better and bigger club.
If both clubs finish, say, 10th in the league, it is considered a "good" season for Middlesbro, but a bad season for Newcastle. That pretty much say's it all.
I'm a fan of neither, but sorry Pete - ya full o' shoooiite.

And until last Saturday's lucky win for Liverpool, we both had the same number of wins in the FA Cup. So many Football fans in Scoobynet and so much ignorance...

For the record I was aware that NUFC had won the league on the odd occasion, but I wasn't aware that their record in the FA Cup was as bad as ours

Crispy
Got to admit to not seeing the game - in the Lake District, but I made my comment based on commentary from BBC Radio 5 Live and subsequent Media reports. Apologies if I was wrong.
As for NUFC fans wanting to end a Season above The Smogs. For most in here, I'd say this is one off banter for Pete's benefit. Most Toon fans don't give a t0ss about Boro - not interested in the slightest. Boro fans of course, have an obsession about Newcastle Utd FC, built on years of jealousy, watching us usually achieve more than they could ever dream. Many Teessiders also envy the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne: its architecture, shopping, status, wealth, etc.
NUFC fans want to beat everyone, but aim their sights at the likes of Liverpool, ManYu, Arsenal and Chelsea. Oh yes, and Sunderland - the only club they play derbies against. The Smogs are 50 miles and 2 counties away from Newcastle. There are also 3 League teams closer to NUFC than Middlesbrough FC (1986). Indeed, both Carlisle and Berwick-on-Tweed are almost as close to Newcastle as Middlesbrough is, and no one would call a game against either of them a Derby!
I openly admit to hating Middlesbrough.
Cheers
