Naseem Hamed - Will He Ever Return ?
OK, so he wasn't / isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me he was a fasinating boxer.
I don't understand why such a great talent would pack it all in because of one defeat In his prime, he was being compared to the great Ali. Surely one defeat can't ruin a career
The latest pictures of him looking fat and unhealthy probably answers the question in the title, but I've been watching some old boxing DVD's - OK he was arrogant and cocky, but no - one could deny the lad had talent.
Discuss...
(ps - I'm not interested in posts slagging him off for his driving etiquette around Sheffield - I'd like this thread to stay on topic - ie, boxing)

Naseem was the same as Eubank, fighting bums in the uk who just made em money. Although Eubank did have some hard fights with Watson and Benn.
As soon as Naseem fought a world class fighter he got his a$$ proper kicked. The guy was leagues ahead of him and so why bother coming back for another beating when you have made your money in the business.

He has more in common with Sylvestor Stallone than Ali !
Great showman, crap boxer.
But when he was at his peak he was very entertaining .
No way he'd return - although looking at him maybe a Hamed v Tyson fight could be on

Well,
I for one was completely in awe at how good he was in his prime and watched all his fights (on TV).
I am not that big a fan of boxing, but I thought he was an especially gifted fighter and i would have loved to se him come bck to the ring.
I doubt he will, now.

I used to laugh at this no-mark cherry picking waste of huge ears...
Having had 2 belts stripped due to fight picking and being threatened with losing his one remaining belt if he didnt fight the number 1 contender, he fought Barrera and got absolutely destroyed. He tried everything, the glove blag, the 45 minute delay to out phsyc his opponent but Barrera wasnt phased and beat 12 cans out of the useless prat...
I went to a dinner with Nigel Benn where he explained how much of a coward Naseem Hamed has been during his pro career, especially by not training harder to try again and come back to reclaim Barreras titles...
I believe he came back in Dubai for a while fighting boxers with no limbs or something for a bit but with 30 million ish in the bank why coe back now and look crap again?
Techinically a crap boxer, outclassed by good technical boxers... I remember when he went 12 rounds with Sugar Boy Malinga (IIRC) and the points went his way (well in Mr Warren) when he was outclassed for much of the fight...
He was a good showman for those who like watching boxing but know little about the beauty and skill involved in the game.
I have all 3 Barrera v Moralles fights on DVD if you want to see boxing at its most amazing...

Some interesting replies, thanks. I now percieve "The Prince" in a different light after re - watching a few of his fights.
I think Abdabz sums Naz when he says :
"He was a good showman for those who like watching boxing but know little about the beauty and skill involved in the game"
So, Amir Khan - plenty of hype - is he the next Naseem or is he fairly handy in the ring
Matt

Khan is a great 'all out massive burst of none stop 3 round action' boxer who has a long way to go before he is top boy.
The potential is certainly there, a good reach, fast hands, agression and a good eye for the right punch. He needs to be eased into the professional circuit, and needs to spar 12 rounds and learn how to break down a boxer coz no matter how much energy he has he couldnt do what he is ffamous for now for 12 rounds against anyone
A potential world champion, yes, but its the mexicans et al who we hear nothing about till theyre at their peak that do well at these ikkle weights.
If the team he has around him is good and controlled and not just a fame hunting entourage then its all there for him...
I wish him all the best.

Naseem Hamed, unlike Mohammed Ali, only seems to fight nobodies and has-beens who he is sure he can beat.
The 'Prince' is, was, and always will be, a talentless gob****e with a bad attitude

Watched the Naseem - Barrera fight last night (to be fair its the first time I've sat down and watched the whole fight) I now see what people mean about him not being a good fighter - he was totally outboxed.
All he had to rely on was knocking Barrera out with a single punch, which never came.

Nas traded on speed and reflexs and the opponent never saw the punch coming,he was losing sum of that speed in his last couple of fights so he would have nothing to offer now,he didnt want to fight mike brodie and would of had no chance aganist scott harrison,we wont see him in the ring again.

I do think some of you are being a bit harsh.
In my mind he was a good fighter in his day. I remember him completely destoying Duke Mckenzie, who was then world champ.
Granted he was an arrogant ***, but I enjoyed watched his fights.
