Default Rossi

Had another excellent 45 minutes last night, and what a finish for his goal, I doubt Rooney could strike it that hard, I can't see how Fergie can't involve him with the 1st team this season and another 3 for Ruud, thats 5 in 90 minutes preseason only pre season but some nice football being played and young Eckersley ( a young Scholes) and Mcshane look very promissing

Real Madrid and England striker Michael Owen has told Manchester United to come and get him. (The Sun)
Why would we when we have Rossi, save the money for Ballack

I too have great hopes for the kid. I thought he may get introduced around Jan time but I certainly hope to see him figure sometime this season.

Not seen his latest goal. any links?

A mate of mine watched the game and said he was fantastic last night... I've seen him play in the reserves last season on MUTV and was impressed... Some great young players coming through

FA Premier Reserve League Play-Off
Charlton Athletic 2
Manchester United 4
The Valley, Charlton

A stunning hat-trick from Giuseppe Rossi gave United the perfect end to their all-conquering season against Charlton Athletic in the FA Premier Reserve league playoff.

The Italian striker hit two fabulous left-footed curlers and then prodded home from close-range to give Ricky Sbragia's side an unprecedented Quadruple.

The evening was tainted by a serious injury to French striker David Bellion, who was stretchered off after just five minutes with a suspected broken ankle.

Rossi put United ahead after 12 minutes. He received the ball on the right side of the area before jinking inside and sending an unstoppable effort into the far corner.

United's lead was doubled after 52 minutes by David Jones. The captain hit a fierce left-footed free-kick into the top right-hand corner, although Addicks keeper Darren Randolph might have done better but could only flick the ball into the net.

The hosts were almost immediately back in the game, however, as Lloyd Sam converted a twice-taken penalty kick after he had been initially fouled by David Fox.

Charlton's resurgence was broken as Rossi popped up just a minute later with another superb left-footed strike into the far corner.

The Italian completed his hat-trick 18 minutes from time, showing remarkably quick feet to stab in the rebound after his initial close-range header had been well parried.

Charlton did muster some further consolation as James Walker fired in from six yards out, but United held firm to clinch their fourth trophy of a stunning season.

Profile:

Giuseppe Rossi joined United's Academy from Italian Serie A outfit Parma in July 2004.

He made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup fourth round win over Crystal Palace on 10 November 2004 - just two weeks after signing professional forms with the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson handed Rossi the number 42 shirt just days before naming him on the bench at Old Trafford, and kicked off the 17-year-old's career by bringing him on as a substitute for David Bellion in the last five minutes of the 2-0 victory.

Rossi, who plays as a withdrawn forward, earned his chance in the first team with some impressive displays in United's Reserves, scoring an array of goals with either foot.

Ferguson says of Rossi: "He’s only small, but he is good in the air. He has got quick feet, a great football brain and can score goals."

He is a superb player, very owen like to be honest but while Saha/Ruud and Roon are there his first team chances will be limited....If I were fergie I'd whack him in the deep end. Sink or Swim.

All the greats cope when thrown in at a young age

Looking forward to seeing him play in the champions lge qualifier!

I'd put him ahead of Saha, time we got what we can for him and cut our loses, and lets not gorget poor old Ole, I'm sure he'll be on the bench this season.

Personally, I'd ship out Rossi on loan for a season before giving him a definitive run out in the Premiership. He's a talent, there's no doubt about that, but I am slightly concerned by his size. I'm not sure how effective he'd be in the Premiership, as I think he'd get muscled out a fair bit. If you could slide a ball beyond the back line to him, however, he'd be away.

All the papers are full of it this morning, I still cant see them going for Owen though, OK they could sell Saha but fergie has said he wants to keep him and roon, RVN and Owen would all want to start, but Owen and Rooney playing week in week out running up to the wrodl cuip would be a good thing.
Fergie must be like a kid in a sweet shop!, I'd still prefer Ballack though

It was nice to see Sir Alex give Giuseppe a run out tonight. I think you'll all agree he looked very sharp.

He certainly did, very hopeful we'll see a lot of him from the bench this season, Ronaldo/Rooney looked good too

I was there last night (lower stretford end by the tunnel two rows back and got my face on the telly woo hoo ) and was also pleased to see Rossi get a small run out... he looked eager and showed a couple of good touches...
Some fella joking behind me reckons we must be saving Bellion for the big games (which made me chuckle)...

Another two for the boy wonder last night, not only a great finisher but his touch and passing are quality as well, he'll be worth 20 a season in a couple of years, his touch for Giggs goal was pure Cantona
