Good to see a young Asian lad proud to represent GBR, and he has the whole country supporting him! What a wave to ride at the age of 17. Good luck to him tomorrow.

My experience is that lots of "third-generation" Pakistani lads (i.e. whose parents were born here but grandparents immigrated) think of themselves as Pakistani and not English, and try to act more Asian than their parents

Yeah I hope he wins Gold. At least you're allowed to talk about it.

My post of congratulations for Kelly Holmes was deleted

I don't understand what people have against her. Just because she wins when certain other athletes fail to compete.

Anyway good luck to him, from me.

What exactly was in your post that made it be deleted. Were you slagging off other athletes? and if so it really wasn't much of a Kelly Holmes appreciation thread was it?

I didn't 'slag off' anyone. I merely made the (valid) point that we now have an athlete worthy of the highest paise.

Good luck to Amir Khan! He's a quality boxer, especially remarkable given his young age and therefore limited experience. I think he'll have a tough time against the Cuban, but you can bet your ar$e he won't give up during the fight just because he isn't winning...

WTF has 'God' got to do with whether someone wins or not? And which God?

Always amuses me when both sides are praying to the same one - must be bloody difficult being God for both sides

And if that is the case, are you sure it got vaped and not moved? And if you are really bothered can't you ask the mods for an explanation?

Could do, but I'm not really bothered. It's just weird that's all. I've said all along that people seem not to care about Kelly Holmes, while certain others get heaped with praise for giving up.

I think you will find that people will care about Kelly Holmes. she has battled injury after injury to get where she is, and this Olympics was her last chance. Maybe she won because the weight of the nation wasn't on her shoulders. Luckily, she is now in a position where she can retire on a high, unlike Radcliffe after the World record.

Back on topic.

Amir is about to play his part in Team GB to help put the 'Great' back into Great British sporting achievment.

Such a welcome contrast to some other members who failed to pull their weight yet still won much praise.

Gordo if you do not believe in a Divine Creator or God then that's up to you but please do not use WTF and God in the same breath or sentence it is highly offensive, because some people do believe in God unlike you it seems.
