video ref needed ?<watford goal?>

I think this is now the time for football to get video refs. The watford goal bounced on the line if it had gone to video ref it would have been different score. <no goal> The video ref works for rugby league would it work for foot ball? chris

Yes & Yes
Not a goal but should have been a pen (IMO no pen for Chelsea )
Ref's need to play the advantage rule as they do in rugby union also
Another would be to tell ALL players ANY foul play in pen area will be looked at via 3rd ref and if players have dived they WILL BE SENT OFF

Video evidence of this sort will NEVER be used in football for a very simple reason:
Unlike other sport where video evidence is used, in football, play is only stopped if i) there's an infringement, or ii) if the ball goes out of play (or iii) if the referee thinks a player has been injured, but that's not relevent here)
If you stop the game to look at video evidence, you've already changed the game enormously, and effectively ruined it.
Any technology brought in to assist referees would have to provide instantaneous real-time decisions, and even THEN you may need a human being to decide whether to apply that decision or not (e.g. an off-side detector).

I echo what David has put in the post above me.
From a referee's point of view there are times when video assistance would be magic, but the problems would outweigh the advantages.
The thing is, mistakes like the above would be lessened.......
