C'mon Brazil !

i hope brazil kick our ****!
to explain, i am not a football fan... but i am a sports fan so i dont dislike football- its just not my sport of choice.
what i do dislike is the pathetic way in which this country has to keep on about 1966 like it was our only sporting achivment (ohhh! it was)
i cant imagine the US or OZ constantly reflecting on a 50yr old game to inspire their sport loving public- in fact if they did i expect they be rather embaressed.
wouldnt it be great if we lived in a country that loved all sporting success? in fact if we did we have more of it but because football is the only thing we seem to care about its the only thing we push on young kids. we only get excited about other sports when, by some stroke of luck, someone manages to do well despite being ignored by the footy loving media while they climbed their sporting tree- foggy, henman (once a year), christie, etc
and once their over with we dump them- we certainly dont go on about them for 50 years!
So..... if we beat Brazil, or worse still, actually win the whole thing this will just set of another 50 years of every other sport in the world being ignored at the expense of our success in it while the team of 2002 get awarded knighthoods and millions and feature on the "whats your best TV highlight" "whats your best sporting moment" "whats your only memory of all time" typr TV shows in the same way that the 5-1 game V germany does.
I can live with the 1966 win cause i grew up noing no difference but i dont think i could handle it all afresh.

ps- i went to my kids sports day yesterday (4-7 yrs old), pathetic waste of my time. none of them had been shown how to run properly, they had no idea where the finish line was and no motivation to win (badges for all- no "winners") no wonder we suck at track and field.

a 50yr old game
I wouldn't knock it - sales of beer will be up, heard this morning sales of condoms were up 60% coinciding with the games!
No, I'm afraid I disagree. Are you saying we shouldn't become a nation of winners for fear of gloating about it? In any case, if we beat Brazil, they'll be so busy back-patting that they'll get stuffed by Turkey or whoever in the semis
Come on England!
(And that's from a Scotsman!)

Perhaps if we had actually won it more then once, we wouldn't keep harping on about it! (See Germany, Italy or Brazil for details)
I cannot believe that there is a single Englishman who honestly hopes we loose.......

certainly got a point..... although I'd rather win it than not!
as I remember we're still fairly good at Rugby, F1, rallying, Indycar, occasionally cricket etc etc.
but oh no.
people have to bleat on about football.
the whole time.
If you can't win, don't play - so on that basis, I hope we win.
