Default Man United Thread 2016-2017

With the season nearly upon us and with England doing an England in France it's time to turn our attention to the new season.

Maureen, didn't want him, but there is a slight glimmer of excitement as he is already showing signs of buying the right players.

Bailly, don't know enough about him to comment other than I don't rate Smalling so competition is a good thing, more so if he can get Varane or Marquinhos on board as well.

Ibra, not necessarily a swan song and final pay day, not bad for a free and Martial/Rashford will learn bundles from this egomaniac, will probably be Mourinho's voice on the pitch.

Mkhitaryan, now this guy excites me, really excites me, cant wait to see him play for us, great balance, vision, assists and goals

Pogba, If stories are true he wants Barca, they don't want him and RM can't afford him. Mmmm kind of galling to have to pay £90-100m for someone we let go for £800k after having paid Le Harve an alleged £10m for. That said this is the sort of midfielder we have been crying out for since Keane left.

So potentially a proper season ahead of us.......

Things are looking promising on the transfer front alright.

Pogba - hmmmmmmm not sure, but the bookies are usually pretty accurate, and seems they think the deal is pretty much done.

100% odd.

But I think he'll bring back some fighting spirit into the team, like we used to have.

Well the press conference went as expected.

Usual dig at Wenger straight off the bat, a little pop at Louis and his philosophy, blunt with regards to Giggs leaving and essentially ending Rooney's midfield career, all in the space of 10 minutes.

Rooney is past it. He needs to stand down as a regular first team starter. Trying to fit a team around him is what cost England the Euros (and other things obviously). As a united fan i cant wait to hopefully see a strong , mobile midfield in pogba and matuidi, with a focal point in ibra up front and guarded by two big strong central defenders. Definitely a better prospect than the last 2 seasons for sure . I know its a lot of money , and really if we do make those signings we should only be aiming for one place. winners.anything else is a failure surely

Played Rooney in the wrong position and picked the wrong players, that's what embarrassed us in the euros.
Personally think Rooney has a lot left to offer.

Matuidi or Pogba or both, that would be nice

I still think we need a world class Centre Half to complete the spine

You'd think we'd have to start selling a few as well, if he does get Matuidi and Pogba then it must be bye bye to Schweiny, Schneidy and Mata, he's keeping Carrick.

Poor old Mata's definitely going to go. He'll have seen his future when Jose was signed.
Schneiderlin - haven't seen a lot from him. Same with Schweinsteiger
I think Januzaj will go also

Got to disagree with Rooney, he's such a good passer of the ball. Think his new roll deep in midfield is best for him. Hard working player.

Shame matta is going. Never been a big fan of Januzzi he's had his chance to prove himself and has failed.

I'll take back my comment on Mata leaving, I reckon he'll stay now, seems to be getting on well with Maureen.

That is just insane for him. Ronaldo back / Messi maybe.

On another note - I am looking forward to watching our first premier league game in UHD

I'd love to have a thumb through the contract, multiple clauses protecting all parties, you'd think there will be a review of the terms every 18 months so United can protect their investment, they'll either renew every 18 months and keep him for life or they'll sell him on at 28/29

You don't spend £100m and allow them to go after 5 years for nothing

I can see there trying to get a future investment, and think they have to pay more as there not going to be in the champions league so need to make up for that.

But still insane money.

We've got to get a good one eventually - the recent biggies have been less than promised. Moving in the right direction.

I'm slowly thawing with regards to him being our manager, you're spot on though it's all about him, always was always will be.

I don't think he's the long term answer, but can see him being there for a while if he does well.

Watched an interesting interview with Maureen on BT Sport last night and for once he spoke utter sense on many things, expectations at United, the quality of the Prem from top to bottom, the money in the English game compared to Spain for example.
