So a few more bits done with the car. Firstly a Beatrush rad panel.

Before:

After:

More importantly I had a new zorst fitted so she now sounds like a scoob. Ended up with a Fujitsubo Legalis R cat back system, not too loud as she is a daily and I wanted a JDM exhaust so its the best of both worlds

I have a prodrive sports cat ready to go once she gets a remap early next year.

Quick update - I had this noise which sounds like a ball bearing rattling around when i break or change direction, it was driving me nuts, so after some removal of the centre console and lots of driving/ breaking I caught this little chap under the carpet rolling up and down the outside of the transmission tunnel.

So relieved to have sorted it out.

you can say thats from a pachinko parlour :P

i really really like this - i wanted to ask about the engine in them, does it suffer the same fate as the uk wrx/sti 2.5 engine with the ringland problems?

what turbo do they come with?

As far as I am aware its an EJ255 engine with VF39 turbo.

I have not heard of any issues as long as you look after them.

between 350 and 380ish and then like the impreza they need internal upgrades etc.

I will be looking at getting at least 330 out of mine with the first remap, then going from there.

that will be with:-

panel filter
fuel pump upgrade
3 port boost solenoid
sports cat + cat back system already on the car
Heat 7 plugs

nice! a remap will go a long way from avoiding the ringland failures these engines are prone to - its the standard map on the 2.5 imprezas that causes most of the problem. Its to do with the closed/open throttle delay.

Saturday was a sad day, Scrappy my Impreza was sold On the plus side I can now focus fully on Flo, so to cheer me up this week the following have been bought

SWRD uprated pump
SWRD 3 Port boost control Solenoid
NGK Heat 7 plugs

This little lot will be fitted bar the solenoid before going to Slowboy for a remap hopefully in March.

Farewell my friend

Regardless of what else you've got on the drive, its always an emotional day when you say goodbye to an impreza.
What that emotion is can vary, depending on experience.

Probably not buddy as it's such a PITA on these cars as you know. She might well end up at Bell and Coleville or I could get Slowboy to do it before the map, they will need to do the solenoid and cat anyway

Hopefully buddy

I have no idea what power she will make but I am hoping that she get at least the same as my PPP hawkeye, which was 330/350?

I know that BPR has got over 350 out of his but I am running the same cat with a different exhaust system

I would bear in mind caution chasing hp with that engine. I run 1.2 bar which is certainly 'safe' and the car drives very well

See what your mapper says too

Totally agree with you I wouldn't want to run anymore boost than that, as you say it's about the driving behaviour more than anything.

To be fair the biggest motivation for the remap is to make sure she is getting the best out of our fuel here, which hopefully should help with reliability.

Good peace of mind to know exactly what your motor's doing

My Subaru's are mapped for 99RON VPower.

Luckily there's a Shell garage 1/2 mile down my road, and the few occasions (mainly in Wales) I've been caught short and not been able to find 99, I've just put a bit of the highest I can find in and kept off the boost then filled up with with 99 at first opportunity

My legacy is also mapped for 99 RON. In the 3 ish years I've had subarus I've only once had to put 97 Ron in (rural Suffolk doesn't have very many shell garages). I drove it carefully, feeling slightly dirty.

My Litchfield Foggy STi ran the 330/330 Performance remap Iain had set up himself.

It was more than enough and the grunt was surprising for the passengers, if you know what I mean. I had pink STi dampers and springs, Whiteline Rear adjustable ARB, Whiteline Front Strut, a Zero Sport CAIK and a quite trick HKS Data Monitor.

Those STi dampers must have been awesome and like hens teeth. Which HKS Data Monitor did you have?

The car is booked in at Slowboy Racing for the 15th March.

Need to crack on with the fuel pump now.

Thanks To Neil for his helpful advice on the phone

Couple of updates

The whiteline strut brace has now been fitted.

I also dealt with the squealing belts, even though they were changed when the car came into the UK, they were Dayco ones which are just noisy.

I would agree Don, however I am not getting very precise steering at the moment, I think my rack bushes are on their way out so I have not been pushing the car. I have ordered some Powerflex replacements which should sort that out.

What kind of steering UJ does the FSTI have? If it's one with a bush (as per the wrx and Legacy) it might be possible to replace it with a solid joint from an STI. That will help the steering feel.

Same as standard European RHD SG Foresters 34170SA000 with damper (which if fitting a bellmouth downpipe can make contact if you don't have a good pitchstopper and engine mounts)
