Question

I have 18 inch wheels with massive clearnce for brake calipers, though am keen to fill the whole wheel with disc.

Has anyone done this?

You might have trouble with the space for such big discs and calipers.

Here is a car with the mentioned discs and as you might notice it's running 19" wheels:

There is some room left but I guess you will have to have some sort of motorsport wheels to make room.

I think I was told I need 410mm of clearance & I have well over that with my 18's.

Many "subaru specialists" have advised there are good 330 mm sets about, though they don't understand I want big, which doesn't always mean better.

I just want to fill the whole wheel with disc..........it may catch on...

Cool

Knowlsey

Go back to 17" wheels, and the 330mm will fill them.

I guess that you have the Leda suspension, in which case you can take the increase in unsprung weight. However, which calipers are you thinking of using? Reason I ask is the limited choice of pads available at this size, and the quality of some of the calipers in smaller sizes more than makes up for their lack of size.

I have found someone that will fit 378's to my car though will take around 6 weeks to order all parts...

in the meantime having new brakes fitted next week & will have the 378's shortly after that.......

After running 18's I couldn't go back to 17's (I have an inferiortiy complex you know)

I will post reviews & pictures sometime next week

Thanks for the responses

M8 I am having 400mm discs on mine.................
No wheels as I am putting the tyre directly on the disc.
It will save heaps on unsprung weight.
You Tart Knowlesy. They will look good and will stop even better.
As you know you will never use that power on the road but if you did track then go for it.
See ya Monday.

We shall see how they look then..

I really doubt you have lots of clearance for 378mm discs in your 18" wheels. I have 330mm dics and there is about 20mm of clearance between the caliper and the wheel. That will make room for 330mm + 2x20mm = 370mm dics as maximum. And I run Compomotives so I don't think 378mm discs and calipers will fit under whatever wheel you want. But we shall see....Time will show..

Question

I've heard of 378mm discs fitting an 18" wheel but

First of all the disc had to have 5mm taken of it

then the caliper had to be machined down nearly to the bolts to fit in the wheel

Knowlesy has been told they will fit by KAD so they know what they are talking about

We shall all see in 4weeks time

Scott

Thumbs up

Just spoke to Knowlesy and KAD told him that he needs 410mm clearance for the calipers&discs to fit and he has 430mm

KAD have done a fantatsitc job, though the original caliper will be re made & refitted to ensure they fit within the wheel.

All measurements have been taken today & I am confident the product will be as good as the current set up of KAD 330's!

Though if your in Southend for the cruise see for yourself tomorrow (bring a torch though!)

I had them fitted today though braking is gentle at the moment.....however just from the 100 miles covered they have a great feel & you can tell there are some serious calipers to stop the rubber...

Yes, both sets pictured here are the 330's.

However in my pictures you cannot clearly see the available space between caliper & wheel

Though there is alot!

378's will be fitted in May (pending my holidays!)
