My Haywood and Scott is very loud, my mechanic fitted two inline resonators at the mid section which cured it massively. I'm twin scroll too so that helps keeping the neighbours happy (no boom burble).

if i did the same , when the big Prodrive box went back on it would be really quiet.
Are resonators/silencers restrictive at all ? Or do they just disperse the sound? Just wondering if i have to fit a silencer on the pipe somewhere where i have to leave it fitted when box goes back on will it massively affect flow/performance. I suppose there was a resonator fitted before i chopped it out but I'm thinking of maybe squeezing a silencer in its place instead. Not sure if there's a flow difference.

I'll be honest - I don't know how a resonator works for sure (have a basic idea), however I asked the same question, a) would it restrict the flow, b) would I loose power, and c) will it handle track abuse with ALS etc.... The answer was a) no, b) no, c) yes.
I'm 3" all the way to the H&S rear pipes where it goes 2.5". Before the resonators were fitted it was Nur Spec loud - and I mean ears bleeding loud, yet on full chat it sounded really nice but too much for every day use! Fitted the two inline resonators and it probably perfect now, and as said before it probably helps that I'm twin scroll so its smoother and less deafening with the boxer beating down in the cabin. I'm going back at some point for a further remap (pretty close to 500bhp now) and I have no issues with the flow through the 3" that tapers to 2 x 2.5" with inline resonators - Hope this helps bud!

Robert.
yeah that helps, at least in the sense that I'll need to put something back on to silence it down. I'm basically going to just have tail pipes. So if i think about it sensibly, I'll make the loud version liveable first , then if i ever fit the Prodrive backbox on it'll be for quiet mode anyway , so the extra silencers will only help.
I only use the car at weekends sensible hours so volume doesn't concern me or any neighbours , but if i need to go to a funeral for example . . . .

Uploaded the vid I mentioned - **** quality as I had to screen grab it for some reason.
Here's mine when i had the backbox off while fixing a gasket. This is what I'll expect with just tailpipes in its place.
I couldn't cope with that, imagine pottering around scaring people, and the drone of it on the motorways..... arghhhh.
Back boxes will make it slightly quieter, but I fear you will want to fit resonators so why not do it straight away and save the pain of doing it twice, and if extreme loud is your thing get a exhaust valve fitted....?

if i can get something made up , that can be swapped over as easy as changing a wheel, I'll do it. If it's an all or nothing choice of loud as hell or the way it is now , it'll stay the way it is.

just buy the cosworth system and get the downpipe modified for std fit turbo
A resonator is a volume around a perforated pipe the same diameter as the external pipework on the system. It is usually packed with rockwool and its function is to allow expansion of the exhaust pulses as they go through. This can take a lot of the unpleasant noise and volume out of the tailpipe noise and lower the booming that can be present in a system that has too small volume in the rear boxes or not enough restriction to muffle the gas as it passes through. It should give no extra back pressure hit... Hope this helps.
My Legacy has a 2 litre engine with a twinscroll turbo - similar to the hatch STi
This is the sound through a Milltek system during a dyno run.
Had an HKS uprated wastegate actuator and Perrin fpr fitted to my twinscroll today, then mapped by Martyn at Enginetuner. Very happy with how it pushes on now, holding boost
Zorst makes quite a difference and the std cat is quite restrictive. Probably why it's dropping off a wee bit early, and the lines aren't quite as flat as they could be. Mine didn't zing till the cats had completely gone

hi guys, i need a new y pipe silicone hose on the top mounted intercooler as the clip has chaffed it where it fits the turbo,on my hatch, can anyone point me in the right direction where to get one in red as there seems to be plenty about not sure of the correct one.
thank you
The "Y" pipe on an STi Hatch is a cast item plus a 90 degree silicone bend which when using the OEM perforated clip tends to get chewed up (as you've found out).
I wouldn't ask about the price of a new OEM one (P/N 14462AA354) unless you are sitting down or have very deep pockets
hi guys.my 2009 wrx sti intermitantly idles lumpy and theres a miss at 2000 revs, not burning oil.been remapped with induction kit.its been to a scooby specialist all sensors were running fine at the time.
ive just borrowed a diagnostic tool to do live data( dont understsnd it) my maf reads 0.01 at idle, can you confirm if this correct please, i dont believe it is?
thanks in advance
