Default Badges on back of cars

Followed a BMW 120d 1 series today and thought just what on earth is the point of badges on the back of cars. Its 1.3i Corsa. Who cares? Just seems the most pointless waste of time. And yes I know if its a ferrari. You dont have to write it on the car

With all the modern cars these days, I actually look at the badges more than ever as I don't know what I am looking at anymore.

Take the horrible Dacia Duster for example - Gross in my eyes. Looks like a modern twist of a LADA.

Then on the other hand go back 30 years, and you look at the front of a MK1 Escort, do you think you can tell which model it was from the front? I think I would have a general idea, but then look at the newage mini - I have absolutely no idea!

So car badges to me are helpful albeit I have been known to remove them for a cleaner look.

I've never understood either removing badges, or look a likes.

Yesterday for example, I saw what looked like a lovely white C63.
Visually it looked cracking, the nice multispoke wheels finished in black, with the diamond cut lip (never looked at the discs).
C63 bonnet, quad exhausts, all the badges, looked great until you heard it startup and go.

Fecking diesel!

My old C63 had all the badges removed by previous owner, or by the factory, not sure which.
Again stupid, because when you hear the noise it makes, and 4 pipes sticking out the back, its pretty obvious its no ordinary car.

Dacia Duster? What's it's smaller sibling, the Dacia J-Cloth?
And they have another called a Dacia Sandero, it's smaller sibling is the Dacia Planer-o.

They also tag some of their cars "Stepway"??????? WTF??????

The Japs used to be the worst, I remember the over-badged, over chrome trimmed models of the 70's and 80's, "Nissan Sunny by Datsun, 1.8GLX"

But all marques are attempted to have a sporty appearance with little no go (sustainability eco statement tosh), so that said it is hard to notice from aesthetics which is a small engine diesel to the cooper works without the appearance of badges.... just my view of course. That said I have never been close enough to one recently to really notice any real or subtle difference, it might be quite obvious

This I completely agree. I was looking at C63's a few months ago, figured they were getting a little more affordable, but once you have scrolled though all the online crap of C63 so called lookalikes, they are not all that affordable anymore. Same with the M sport BMW's too, many claiming to be either a M5 or alike, and they are generally bloody diesel!!

Have you not seen the Dacia Logan? It is not abit like Wolverine.

I think BMW have sold themselves as badge ****** recently. You get M badges on the car even if it is just a spoiler fitted. All show and no go.

Bah Humbug!

They are all at it, BMW have the "M Series", which, afaik is just parts of the M trim level. Audi have the S-Line, Vauxhall the VX Line, Ford the ST-Line, etc etc.

Badges and a slightly sporty trim for idiots.

Ours just has the roundel: Yet it's fully loaded with almost every optional extra. The only exterior clue to what's under the bonnet is it has a single tailpipe on each side, where lesser models have twin tailpipes on one side.

In contrast to a 318d M-sport....tiny profile tyres, harsh ride, basic seats, halogen lights without proper high beams FFS (it's basically a bi-xenon fitting without the electronics; must be rubbish on unlit roads compared to older models that used a separate bulb for high beam).

Now...what do you lot make of cars with quad-tailpipes...that only have a single-pipe system upstream. Is this the current way of thinking; More ***** are better than one?

Hey, don't knock car badging!
My 1963 Ford Anglia had a 'Deluxe' badge.
Told everyone that it was the premium model that had a heater.

Like the Abarth 500, Audi S1 and later Subarus... Shouldnt be allowed. Only for V8s and BMW M cars.
I even think they look wrong on 911 Carrera S’s.

As for badges, M has ****ed it’s own brand by spunking M on pretty much all of its cars.

A guy at a petrol station asked if my RS4 was ‘the S Line’ years ago. Again, another car maker diluting its top line.

Putting 'Turbo' on the back of all of the astras.lol

Even 1.2 cars have a 'turbo' now. Bleeding pointless.

TBH was just having a moan about basic cars ie '1.9 cdti'. Who cares! Why write it on the car?Mine is a 2.0 diesel. Who cares!

Totally agree on M sport nonsense

It makes me smile when you see a bog-standard model that some fool has put a top-of-the-range badge on & expects everyone to be impressed.

I saw a plain black BMW 3-series 4 door with a single pea-shooter exhaust & skinny steel wheels & a M3 badge on the boot.Go figure.

My jdm hatch spec C was registered in Japan AND badged as a 330s; they were never badged as spec Cs, so I must confess that I swapped the 330s for a spec C sticker.

Shocking, you might as well have put RA-R on the back
