First time WRX Hawkeye Owner - Cambelt Question
Hi All,
Been browsing this form on and off since I picked up my 1 owner Stock 2006 WRX PPP Hawkeye (26k miles) in February and thought I should really register for a forum account. I have not done anything to the car yet other than oil/oil filter, cabin filter, air box filter and had brakes checked. My main concern is the cambelt because as far as i can tell from all the paperwork i got with the car, it's never been replaced. A 12 year old WRX with 26k miles on the clock, my main concern is the condition of the belt due to its age not the mileage. I plan on getting it done but was wanting some feedback if i should get it done as soon as possible or i should be fine for a little longer if it's not too risky. When i get it replaced should i go with a full replacement kit or just the belt based on mileage. Is it worth changing out anything else while everything is off?
Cheers.

Get it done asap. Any good garage will tell you 50k miles or 5 years whatever comes first. Doesn't matter if it's only done 26k it's WELL overdue, in fact it should have been done twice now already and half way through it's 3rd belt. I personally wouldn't trust the car until it was done.
Thanks for the info/advice guys. Been on the phone to my garage and got a quote for a full timing belt kit and water pump replacement. I will get it booked in early next week hopefully, going to tie it in with the install of a GFB short shifter and an afterburner de resonated centre pipe.
I hope you can afford it. I recently bought an 04 plate and the cambelt was last replaced 5 years and 70,000 miles ago so I replaced it. I use a local garage that does a lot of work on performance cars and the cost of the cambelt kit and labour came to nearly £600.

Count yourself lucky, my last cambelt service cost me £1300 at Subaru. But then I had a lot of things done at the same time as the car was new to me at the time and I wanted it perfect.
Gates or dayco ?
RCM do a very competitive price on the Gates kit ( unless you want the STI pink gates ( silly money .
Put a new thermostat in also / for the price it’s a no brainer.. some people change oil pump also , but as mine is a built engine I know exactly mine is fine by my readings .

I don't know for sure what make of belt is getting fitted. I can only guess that it is a Gates based off a conversation i had a few weeks back. I specified that i was after a full cam belt kit and listed the components so i think i can safely say that it's the bang lot getting replaced. The work is being carried out by Darren Moore of TRW Autos & Performance who knows his stuff. I believe he worked with and fitted a lot of the parts for the late Harvey Smith who is quite well known on this forum.

Water pump is on the list of parts getting replaced during the cam belt change 👍
I've now had the cam belt work completed, it was a Dayco Kit that was fitted. Very pleased with my new GFB short shifter and centre section aswell. Thanks again for the help and advice.
the cambelt kit with water pump alone is almost 190 quid
plus aux belt call it 200
so they replaced pulleys tensioners etc all in for 325? so what they charged about 3 hours labour that' a decent price if so..
