So having got the new car, it came with some very nice Advan Racing RS wheels. Noticing they didn’t come with Centre caps I looked into buying some, they turned out to be somewhere in the region of £250 to buy a set! So although I want to protect the hubs, I’m not paying that... cue the measuring and designing some of my own.

I went non-direct so sounds about right. Happy with how they turned out though

 

I looked at the Mrs car and the caps were just held in by tension rather than the clips falling into a groove. I tried a couple of different diameters until they felt pretty snug and put a small slot to get a screwdriver bit in for removal

 

Nice work. I've made loads of 3D printed parts over the years as I have access to a great printer and design all my own stuff. It's great, but do be cautious as in my experience they age and can crack and warp over time.

They look mint, iv always wanted to have a go at 3d printing im a CNC turner by trade do get most bits done on the lathe and my i can get by on a manual mill

 

We’ve got some decent CNC machines too, just the printing is much more time efficient, I rarely have time to machine anything at work.

 

Made a dash blanking switch today as the previous one had been badly butchered to house a switch, mich neater now

 

Good work Rab.I love this technology it is bloody awesome,future evolving of this stuff is really promising.Am hoping to get into this kind of thing at some point.

 

Have an android tablet installed in my dash to give me loads of additional gauges and spotify etc. All grand and works a treat, but wasn't happy with the tablet on display all the time so designed and 3D printed a simple cover.

No chance mate. In my experience the 3D parts creep and shrink over time. 3D parts are IMO only a prototype tool to get things checked during the design process.


CNC milling is the shizzle!

 

I abused the 3D printer again today. I've been doing my garage project of late and have pulled in more power sockets and equipment where required. I've just purchased a couple of nice fused switches that I plan to use on my bench light and wall mounted retractable mains extension cable. I had a change of heart about the cable coming out of the front of the switch units (as it wasn't tidy enough for me), so have made a convenient plug for the hole with the added advantage of an integrated label to clearly identify each switch unit. Simples!
