Nothing crazy. Roughly 285-290. It's a daily driver and 11 years old, plus the auto box isn't as strong as the manual. I'm hoping for a better power delivery and throttle response as it feels a big strangled at the moment.
Plus a bit more noise...
I've been having a few issues with fast idling when cold. I've cleaned the MAF, and since there is no IACV valve to get gummed up I suspected the throttle body.
So, off with the intercooler:
The inside of the intercooler and throttle did have some oil in, so sloshed some carb cleaner into the intercooler and left it to soak.
I also gave the throttle body a clean (as far as I could without removing it).
While I was there I replaced the pitch mount with a group n version. Although visually they appear to be identical.
Spot the difference.
I also checked the airbox for leaves:
At the end I performed the idle re-learn procedure.
all in all it appears to have made no difference to the cold idle.
so I may have to try again, but take longer and remove the throttle body entirely, which looks like a proper PITA, I can't see a way to get it off without removing the inlet manifold.

.
Part number for the Blitzen is 41040FE000 which is the same for the UK WRX STI which is the same as the "Group N" without the STI logo and STI part number...........

Ha! Thought they looked suspiciously similar.
Thanks for the inlet diagrams. The issue I've got is that I can't access the jubilee clip on part 16177 (bottom right).
But next afternoon when I've got some time and it's not freezing I'll give it another go.
So, time to get the professionals involved.
dropped the car at Zen this morning to fit the ARB, mounts, exhaust center section, have a re-map and a general overhall.
Right then. Not a complete success a Zen yesterday.
The Hayward and Scott center section didn't fit, due to the difference in shape between the manual and auto box.
The Avo mounts also didn't fit, neither did the whiteline Arb bush saddles.
Now I've got a few bits to return or modify. Hayward and Scott have agreed to take back the exhaust section and I'll have a look at the arb mounts at the weekend, if it's not too cold or raining.
The plus side is that the new rear ARB, drop links and bushes are all in place and already the big bus feels a lot more nimble.
That's what H&S suggested. I do a fair amount of travelling so they also said that if I was to remove the old section and send it to them they'd make one up and send it back same day.
They are about an hour down the road so I may have an afternoon off to go and get it sorted.
Zen also couldn't see the origin of the oil, but agreed that the likely source is the air from the crankcase and the oil is pooling in the intercooler then dripping past the pipe join, or there is a pin hole leak in the turbo to intercooler pipe.
So I'll see if I can track down a new pipe and seal and see if that fixes it. Since I've cleaned everything I can't see any new drops or ooze.

That brings back memories, when I had the "Y" pipe fitted on the WRX STI
Trooper mentioned that the y pipe is a weakness. Mine looks ok at the moment.
While it was up on the ramp I had another look at the avo anto roll bar mounts. I think they could be made to fit if I was to re-drill or file the holes. At the moment they are just too wide to match up to the holes in the arb mounts.
I'd need to do some careful measuring first though...
Drove the 50 miles or so home. The exhaust note is a fraction louder, but you have to concentrate to notice. Definitely a bit more rasp under acceleration, although i was trying to take it easy.
Back to Zen tomorrow!
Just picked up the car from zen. Not much of a chance to try it out on the commute home, but it definitely feels a lot perkier. Richard estimates it has got another 40 bhp, so bang on my desired levels.
I'll have to try to get it on the rolling road here:
1. Noisy steering.
2. Find a good PDR chap.
3. Brakes (discs/pads and braided hoses)
4. Hot oil smell. I thought it was the power steering pump, but now I think its engine oil.
5. Sort out fast idle when cold.
6. Modify and fit AVO ARB brackets.
7. Hope nothing breaks.

Is the oil smell the OS Rocker gasket? A common fault.

That's the first thing I'll be checking when it's not freezing cold and snowing.
I had that issue on my wrx wagon, so I may ask Tim Farmer to visit to sort that and the brakes at the same time.
This is a really cool project Cambs, you just don’t see many of these about and from what you’ve described and done can be an awesome car.
Colour me intrigued
They are great cars. The anti roll bar and map has really transformed it. It's never going to be as agile as an impreza, but it's shaping up to be a great comfy cruiser/family wagon.
I've done a few more miles since it's been mapped and Richard at Zen has transformed it. Whereas previously it felt a bit strangled and lethargic now it's eager, responsive and huge fun.

I've finally had all the STI bits (vf35 and associated map/mods) added to my wagon and just waiting for the mapper to send through the numbers. At first I was a bit surprised that I didn't notice much difference, then I got it above 4k rpm and whooosh! Massive difference from the WRX PPP setup. Needs a little tweak for VPower and possibly a replacement solenoid but I am really looking forward to Silverstone in a couple of months...
