Default Dangerous Dogs (again).

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co....bulky-12835128

They need to start banning more of these dogs and coming down harder on owners. It's always a certain type seems to own them to. I find these dogs intimidating even when they are well behaved and don't like them being on the street.

Its owners not breeds that are the problem, you're still more likely to get bitten by a labrador. But no one is crying out to ban them. Most dog owners shouldnt have one.

I'm sorry but breeds are a problem since some breeds are bred to have extreme bite strength, musculature and pain tolerance. It's a total myth that owners are the problem. You wouldn't let some have a pet saltwater croc walk down the high street.

Thats just pointing out the potential of what a certain breed could do. In that case any dog over 20kg could kill an adult. Its the idiots that own them, in years gone by they just wouldnt have owned a dog or had some little terrier instead, which when equally untrained wasn't capable of the same degree of power or damage. 20 years ago there was one bull terrier breed dog in my local area and now its flooded. Like i said labradors top the chart of dog attacks on humans.

It's one the most common dogs too !
So hardly relevant info

60+ percent deaths come from pit bull type and rotties alone

There's around half a million labs in the uk. With your 'pitbull type' description that will equate to far more than that. Let alone adding Rotties into it as well.

Of course potential matters. Risk = probability x consequence.

So how is probability increased by the physical attributes you quoted earlier?

It isn't Any dog with an irresponsible owner is dangerous, regardless of breed.

Do you actually think a "staffy/rotty/mastiff/whatever" in the right hands, is more dangerous than a "lab/spaniel/Poodle" in the wrong hands?

Consequence is worse for powerful breeds is my point; they simpily can do more damage and some breeds give a human no hope of living.

Yes, but probability is reduced with a responsible owner. (Of any dog)

Answer the question

Answer the question
The risk is still higher (all things being equal).

Sound reasoning, you would rather be with a lab that has been trained to be aggressive, than a staffy that hasn't.

I suspect that in not too many years to come dogs of any breed in civilian hands will be banned. Dog ownership will be viewed in the same light as we regard the ownership of pet bears now, something so dangerous as to be beyond contemplation. Although actual deaths by dog are relatively few, last year over 7,500 people required hospital treatment following dog attacks.

I still think there's something about particular types of dogs.
Yes, all dogs have the potential to seriously harm humans, but rottweiler's are rather large dogs, and you don't stand much of a chance against one.
I'd much rather face an angry labrador than an angry rottweiler.
Rottweiler's also appear to have a particular type of owner on the other end of the lead.

You've been saying that for years. Its not happened yet, and its not likely to. Perhaps you should join Duncan under that rock

Watched the video. That ar5ehole "owner" needs to be shot. Those dogs are excited and experiencing high levels of dog arousal - due to their owner's behaviors. Its no surprise they bit two people but its 100% that pr!cks fault.

PS - I'd rather an experienced zookeper walk a bic croc down the highstreet than some retard with a jack russell

Why blame animals when it's humans that are to blame you wouldn't blame a gun or a knife or a bomb but the owner who is responsible

Just my 20p's worth

different dogs have different traits bred into them
Even with the best owners those instincts are still there
I've had working lurchers my whole life they do a job in the field and are a great pet super cool with kids

I have a Boxer. The breed was originally bred for fighting. Now they are widely known as one of the best family dog breeds about.
It's hilarious when walking how many dogs bark like hell at her. She just looks at them and walks straight past. Been around kids and other dogs day in day out her entire life. Throughout her life she has mothered many litters of abandoned kittens and puppies due to the (ex) other half working at a vets.

Gotta have a pic:
