what does a pro drive kit consist off?
noob alert
im going to look at an 04 plate wrx, the seller (trade) says its upto 310bhp, i asked what has been done to get it to that and he says "As far as I know it's had a pro drive kit fitted as engine looks bog standard", now i have never owned a scooby before so not really sure what (if anything) i should be looking for.
Im not buying it becasue of the extra bhp but i dont wanna buy a 310 car that only has 220 lol

Hi,
I never had it on my first Impreza but as far as I am aware the full PPP kit was the remap, exhaust and one of the pipes under the bonnet were changed.
The back box is the easiest to spot as it's slightly larger than stock and has Prodrive embossed on the tailpipe. The car should also come with a certificate from Subaru / Prodrive stating the kit was fitted.
This is what the kit consisted of..

Phone Subaru with the VIN. All PPP parts can be removed, swapped or sold on. The car should have a certificate or sticker in the service book.
Its not a great upgrade as it is a generic "plug and play" ECU set up. You can get a better set up with more for less with aftermarket parts and a besoke remap.

Oh, that's ok then I looked at the link above but it didn't list an uprated fuel pump, even on the STi. I was starting to question myself as I was sure the STi PPP included a pump.

Standard exhaust... no doubt the seller is just trying his luck. Just ask to see the prodrive certificate and see what he comes back with...
If he's claiming '310bhp' then go drive it, you'll know instantly (if you have any experience with these cars) if he's talking sh1te.

Unless you can see a copy of the certificate or get it confirmed by Subaru, I would always be of the opinion that it does not have a genuine PPP installed.
As already mentioned, PPP parts can be removed, sold on and then bolted on to give the impression that a PPP has been installed. The backbox in the picture is easily the biggest giveaway in this case ... as it's standard.

The easiest things the check are the exhaust, which should be a large single exit with prodrive on the top:
Here's mine.
There should also be a blue prodrive branded silicone y pipe under the intercooler.
Most importantly is the cert to say it's an official prodrive upgrade. Should look like this but without the red scribblings.
The ecu should also have a prodrive sticker on but that is a bit harder to see.

I'll second SJ's advice. Walk away. Look for an Sti if you're after initial power with the option of increasing power later down the line. You'll spend more modding a WRX to get it where a tweaked Sti is at. That is of course unless you're after a wagon (as per the pic) because Subaru didn't do an Sti wagon.

thats the thing i like the wagon and its different to the other scoobs i usually see.
the seller has got back to me
"There's no evidence of the upgrade, I've just checked it now, no sticker or certificate."
