Default thoughts on thermostat upgrade ?

Heyy yalls !
My radiator on my 2004 wrx is looking abit tired so im going to get my self a mishimoto one to replace, just thinking really while I'm there would a 160 degree thermostat benefit me ? I'm all about keeping things cooled down but have read some Americans rowing on a forum about having to change oil ect ect blah blah, just want good info straight to the point lol ,
Regards

160 degree!?

Your engine would have died long before the temps got that high.

OEM works just fine, or you could try something like the ZeroSports.

Worth doing a search and having a read though:

you need the oem one for normal use, lower temp thermostats don't work well in winter, lowering oil temps to much in cold weather.

Stick to OEM rads and thermostats. They work well...why waste money?

I have a mishimoto X line rad in my hatch as the oem **** thin thing was useless, a good hard thrashing and the water temps rose quite sharp to over 90c fitted the new rad and a high flow 78c stat and all is good.

Zerosports is a 71dg stat and works really well. On my 2.5 it cruised at 78-84 and idles after hot runs a 88-92 peaking at 93 full boost on track

The Cosworth one I have now I bought for track use only and is too cold for road really on a year round basis. It cruises at 74-80 and with the eom oil cooler doesn't get a great deal hotter ideal for track but not on an everyday car

I run the Zerosports on the classic I have as well and I've never had one fail or a system that's got too hot. The benefit of a stat like a Zerosports as well is that should they fail they fail in the open position. OEM stats fail closed. This is an added safety benefit with the worst that can happen is a cold system, preferable to a cooked one

cheers mate, the failing in the open position is what made me think about getting a different one, just sells its self with a safety feature like that really
