Foreman or Ford man?

Only joking, but you are asking a very broad spectrum question.
If you just want some noise for cheap a good qualitiy used backbox or catback system will make a bit of noise without requiring an expensive remap.
More expensive option is a full decat system and induction kit this will give you plenty of noise but will require a remap.

The modding potential is endless but expensive. Check out the link below for some ideas.

It will cost you most of your budget for the remap. but with a catback and a quality panel filter + remap you should have your target!

I may be wrong? i am sure someone on here will have pleasure in telling me, but i don't think you will need a remap for a catback exhaust and an uprated panel filter.
Of course a remap is always better but i would of thought not essential with these two subtle mods.

OP wanted 280 on 600 notes. Basically as you said you can't do it on the cheap.

Removal of any cats will make it s**t it's self Unless you Map.

What I'm saying is get a plan together first what you want for sure then go get a map.

You won't see 270/280 with cat back and filter though.

It is but its not cheap!

Basically,

If you want a little bit of noise whilst saving some more cash, stick a cat back exhaust on. (Fairly cheap)
For any increase in power you will need a remap. (Not cheap)

I see your on NESF thats your best bet to find a local car, the guys on there are very helpful, and as for mapping the likes of Bob rawle visit the north east around once every 2 month and hold mapping days at AK automotive in Chester Le street and DLM at Darlo, you are best of emailing Bob to see when he is up, where and how much. I think Andy forrest also visits the north east frequently

best advice is to spend a bit of time reading a few threads on here and get some knowledge first before going to buy one. personally there is nothing wrong with buying a car already modded IF its done properly and has been well maintained and not thrashed. a car with a folder full of reciepts and record of regular oil changes is a good place to start.

Im at durham and ive got some stuff that might interest you, i had an 03wrx which had been mapped for decat exhaust and ive still got the ecu, gt spec manifold and decat up pipe, got prodrive y pipe aswell and autobahn88 front mount intercooler aswell so if you get a newage wrx you can make a good saving on some parts
