Default Ahoy there, more taxes on the horizon

EU launches legal action over UK air quality

Of course I am sure the government will find a way of taxing us to sort this out

It's odd. The EU know there is a debate going on in this country as well as other members about the terms of membership of the EU and whether we should stay or go, and yet here they are launching legal proceedings and imposing fines on us? Do they think that will endear themselves to us? Do they actively want us to leave?

If we are causing cross border pollution then we have a case to answer. I believe Drax Power Station were fined in the 80s for pollution that occurred in Sweden.

I could believe the above IF our government had EVER taken them on, apart from over speed scameras.

EVERYTHING else, they impose it on us, then blame the EC.

whereas the other member states ignore stuff that doesn't suit them.

No wonder the other EC states mock us.

I like the Stalin approach to threats from abroad. I seem to recall he was threatened with something by the Vatican during WW2. His response was reputedly "How many divisions do they have?"

Threatening a nuclear armed state (ie us) always seems a little silly to me. Cameron wants to grow a pair and tell them where to go.

But I gather most of the pollution is in London, so that doesn't matter anyway.

I assume that you didn't actually read the article then. How you could possibly call protecting the quality of the air that we breath (SOMETHING OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE DOING ANYWAY) 'lentil munching retards' once again reveals a staggering lack of insight on your behalf.

I read the article in full and really don't give a proverbial **** about our air quality TBH. I give even less of a proverbial **** about you and anything you say TBH.

What I do care about is the sh1tehole this country has become since we got involved with those EU lentil munching retards.

Even Jeremy Clarkson picked up on this and mentioned it on last weeks Top Gear.

Not really, if it was that big a problem we would already be doing more about it.

The FIRST thing that wants doing is to spread some of the wealth from the capital: get some of the firms down there to move. THAT will increase air quality overnight.

The French made a concerted effort over Paris some forty years ago. As a result, head-offices are there, with a skeleton staff, but the actual manufacturing, jobs etc are all over the country.
Paris doesn't suffer from the SE overcrowding, poor transport and lack of water.

Why don't we do the same? And ask the EC for grants to help us.

Greece has lost its national sovereignty and the EU has full control, they don't need a fine like this, they invent new taxes every day.

The latest is the tax on fat, all products that contain fat will be taxed an extra 3%.

That's because the inland revenue cares about your health

England has still got its national sovereignty so the EU is trying other ways to raise cash...

Can you explain that, as I don't recall at any point in my life where this country has been threatened to the point that we'd consider the instant sunshine option, more so when put in context with our membership of the EU?

We've been killing our environment ever since the industrial revolution. Did you know that the honey bee provides 30% of our food crop in the UK through pollination. The retail value last year for this alone was valued at around £1 billion. Yet through the use of pesticides we are wiping bees out. I'd rather be a lentil muncher than stick my head in the sand believing we can carry on polluting the earth with no come back

Not in the EU context, but Argentina - although it was more nuclear blackmail but would you have called Thatchers bluff?

Yes, it is....and the SE and London is why.

You can't put everything and everyone down there, then complain about air quality, transport, house prices, lack of water etc etc.

After I hit return, I did think of that.

Had the capture of the Falklands failed, I do wonder what the next option would have been, because as you say, I wouldn't have called her bluff. I wasn't aware than anything nuclear had been mentioned during the war?
