I had a very very good & long look at this prior to buying and trim is fixed by a bolt at the top and slots in at the bottom between the dash and pillar. The curtain air-bag is designed to be deployed towards the top of the pillar between the leading edge of the trim and the rubber trim.

I have no problem with this install, I personally did not want to lose any of the vents or switch to a single din radio.
