Default 2002 WRX - Standard alarm 'chirping' then going off

Hi All,

My bug eye appears to have developed an alarm issue today. Standard fit alarm... button is On the keys, no fob. Got a keypad on the dash which I've never used.

What I haven't found, is an exact description matching the behaviour.

To explain the sequence:

Car has been sitting for a Random amount of time
Car begins to 'chirp' the alarm
Chirping goes on for a while, stops, starts again.
The chirping isn't regular... it's beep......beepbeep....beep....beep.........beepbee p
Every so often, it turns in to a full alarm!

This time, I decided not to lock the car to avoid arming the alarm (it has never auto armed before... although it did require a new battery recently and I don't think the 'back up' battery works on the Sigma as I've read that it can still go off when you pull the main car battery?.... glad it doesn't at the moment!). It started chirping and when I got to it, the doors where locked. (I'm now doubting myself and there's an outside chance I didn't actually leave it unlocked....)

I also noted that the red 'key' symbol on the dash flashing away.

Locking and unlocking the car doesn't stop it.

I didn't have much time to try anything with it. 4am so I pulled the battery before I got an ASBO.

If I where to guess at it, it's almost like it's trying to warn me that I'm locking the car with a door open, like a faulty switch. The thing is, it does it hours after I've had the car locked.

I don't think the battery is at fault, it's brand new and the interior light stays strong when I crank it. Having said that, it generally shuts up if I run the car.

Have you looked through this thread to see if a similar situation has occurred and answered by Ian (Sigma Sam)??

Many thanks for that! I've read quite a few threads but typicly missed that one which is a near perfect match to my issue. Sounds like I need to investigate the Siern unit.

Will the car work correctly if I just remove the siren or will the alarm get the **** on if it doesn't see ti connected?
