Don't use the Scoob much now & mistakenly let the battery go flat (it's a Spec C so his a tiny battery). Replaced the battery with a brand new one & car is still dead to the world Any ideas?

The alarm is a top notch Cat 1 system & normally remains immobilized at all times ie turn on ignition = nothing so have to "plip" the alarm to get the dash to light up etc. Car won't start until then which is like the problem I've currently got. I can PM the actual alarm system if needs be just don't want to post it here for obvious reasons.

do the headlights, interior light, boot light all work or is it totally dead?

 

No lights work apart from parking lights. Not so strange though as (it's a Jap car) lights etc don't normally work when the keys are out of the ignition.

maybe silly but is the new battery any good? charged?

 

New battery is still fully charged (been "on" for a week) & was checked today. I think that I'll need to call out one of those mobile alarm chaps to take a look?

Edit - someone suggested a blown fuse. I could have blown something when I was attempting a jump start using Father In Laws jump leads. Trouble is that the Owners Manual is in Japanese

 

sounds like the main feed to the cars fusebox has went down..

there should be a black box beside the battery which has some fuses/relays in it.

In there are box fuses(plastic boxes with a see through lid), check these as it is highly likely that you have blown one

 

There is a black box & it has loads of fuses in it! I'll have a look through them & see if one's blown. Cheers

you will probably have to go to subaru if its one of the box type fuses. If its just a normal fuse than you can get them anywhere

 

I've had a look at them & I've no idea what I'm looking for! Can't even work out if/how to get them out Need to call in an expert I think! Would the AA be able to work it out? They'd tow the car too wouldn't they if they couldn't get her moving?

Iv had this before on my old subaru and it was the fuse for the alarm.Check up the back of the dash poss the drivers side above the pedals for a box with lots of wires going into it an then look around the box for a fuse if its blown that will be your fault. i replaced the fuse and all was fine.It was a Clifford alarm if thats any good to you.Good luck

 

Well the alarm light on the dash (one that flashes) doesn't work either so it could be that fuse. Another suggestion is the ignition fuse as almost everything goes through that one bar the parking lights which still work of course?

Could try the AA, they will only tow it somewhere if you request it. DONT have to get it taken anywhere. Have had them look at a few cars for me in the past.

Only item that works seems to be parking lights.

Checked all the fuses last night (except box ones) & all are fine! It may be the alarm fuse (noted above) however I'm not sure where to start with this one as it'll be hidden away for sure. I'll probably call in a mobile alarm chap to check it over ...

stereo and hazard lights are not conencted to the alarm so its safe to assume that it's not the alarm or it's fuse.

Prime candidate for this is the box fuses that are located in the black housing in the engine bay. These supply power to the internal fusebox. Since so many unrelated things are not working I would start by looking there.

Another possablility is that you have a flat battery or the battery terminals are not properly connected

 

these are similar to your box fuses. if you look in the clear window you should see an unbroken copper link. If it's black or broken then that is your fault.

 

FYI:

high beam (works without ignition) - doesn't work.
hazard lights - work OK.

I'll check this in the daylight. Fairly sure that most have a metal strip running through them; one though seems "empty" of a metal strip.

sounds like you have a blown fuse if there is no strip of copper in there.

 

^^ You were right! AA sorted it. One of the 80A box fuses.
