if the rest of the alarm works it sounds like the positive pulse for the unlock has become disconnected or broken.
not a problem as you can use negatve pulse unlocking and locking with a relay relatively easily for a few pence. give me a shout if you would like a guide and wiring diagram.

hmmmm. without testing the motor myself i couldnt say, it is possible one side of the coil on the motor has gone but...if that was the case i would expect both open and close would generally fail...I may be wrong I wire aircraft for a living not cars generally but have fitted several car alarms including toad.
I would still say it was a fault as I said above in fairness, but thats just my semi professional opinion.
