Unhappy sigma alarm problems.

Have got a classic impreza with a sigma alarm on it,
recently the central locking has started to play up by not working when using the fob to open and close the car (very annoying with two kids in the rain)
any help would be appriciated
thanks in advance

Can you give me a little more information on the exact year of the car and whether its a UK car with the import centre fitted Sigma M30, or if it's an earlier car with an aftermarket M30installation?

This info will help me understand how the CDL is likely to have been wired.

UK cars up until 99MY where not intended to have remote locking and so did not have a motor in the driver's door - the vehicles CDL was just operated on the other doors/boot by turning the key in the driver's door barrel. On these vehicles it was necessary to fit an additional motor in the driver's door.
Vehicles from 99MY came with remote locking from the factory and a motor in the drivers door as standard, although the remote itself was replaced by that of the alarm.

If it's a UK import centre fitted Sigma M30, then the system will have been wired to operate the vehicle's "Single Wire" type central locking.
If it's an aftermarket installation, then it could also be possible that the alarm has been wired to operate the additional motor in the driver's door directly, and the other doors are then locking as a result of this motors operation (like turning the key in the door)

Does the central locking still work on any other doors from the driver's door barrel?
Does the internal lock button operate any other doors?

Any other information would be helpful.

it's an my97 uk spec sigma m30 that was on the car from new according to the dates on the installation sheet, yes doors still open from the driver's door barrel although it's sometimes stiff to turn,
the internal button still locks all the doors.

The Sigma M30 wasn't standard fitment at the UK import centre until 98, so I would imagine that yours is an aftermarket install, albeit from new. If you still have the installation sheet, I imagine that it is signed on behalf of a specialist installer rather than International Motors.

Assuming that its an aftermarket installation then, and from the info regarding the other doors locking from the key barrel, I suspect that the additional motor in the drivers door has failed and will need replacing.
The motor in the drivers door is of the 2-wire type, is easy to change (if you are comfortable removing the door panel) and a replacement 2-wire motor should be available from most accessory shops as they're a fairly standard design.
Before purchasing the new motor however, it may be aswell to try to free-off the sticky lock barrel, just incase it is this that is preventing the drivers motor from operating correctly.

All the best,
SS

Doesn't this sound like the remote frequency getting jammed when near a Police station or Hospital etc?

Going from the description, its just the vehcile's CDL that's not operating when the remote is pressed.
The original post makes no mention to the alarm failing to disarm, therefore the system triggering when a door is opened and the vehicle then remaining immobilised - all of which would occur in a "Radio Lock-out" situation.
I can only assume, as these problems are not mentioned, that all is well in these areas and so this would not be a case of "Radio Lock-out", but simply a failed or sticking motor in the driver's door which is not operating the driver's CDL switch within the lock mechanism.
