Default Alarm Problems

Arrrgg. Just brought my pride and joy (2 weeks ago, MY00) anyway I've just spent the last 2 hours in a carpark coz the doors wont unlock. God i looked a plonker walking around pointing the fob in all directions. Anyway a guy came over and told me that it's common with this car and is caused by masts (Confirmed by other threads here). To cut a long story short I opened the doors manually and pushed it around the car park (with help from others who were highly ammused at this stage) whilst pushing the fob and eventually it would disarm. So off I go to my local dealer and they said just punch the 4 digit code into the keypad. Well I don't have it. I just rung the last owner and he said he never used it and doesn't know. Anyway back onto the dealer and they said if I give them the serial number from the alarm they will get me the code from the manufacturer, at a cost of course. My questions are;

1 If the dealer gets me a code, will it work? The manual says you can change the code, i'm sure someone must have changed it at some point so surelly it'll be a waste of money.

2 Will a local alarm company be able to reset the code if I take the car to them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'd imagine the previous owner has changed the code, so I doubt getting the original is going to help.

A local alarm company may not be able to help, but it certainly won't do any harm asking. Your alarm is a Sigma alarm, so try and find a sigma dealer - they're bound to be able to sort you out.

Thanks Urban, didn't think the dealer option sounded too convincing. I'll get searching for a local Sigma guru.

Any Sigma dealer will be able to change the code for you, no need to know the current code.

No need to involve dealers, provided that the system can be armed and disarmed with a remote at the time, then you can re-set the 4-digit PIN to one of your own choosing yourself using the keypad at any time.

Instructions on doing this can be found in the security systems Operating Instructions. If you do not have these a copy can be found at:

http://www.subaru-impreza.org/subarutalk/viewtopic.php?t=2476

When using the keypad always observe the following points:

- The PIN number should not be entered too quickly or too slowly - when a digit has been pressed the small LED built into the keypad will illuminate briefly as confirmation and only then should the next digit be entered.
If an incorrect digit is pressed or the delay between entering digits exceeds10 seconds, then the LED above the keypad will flash rapidly and the PIN attempt should be abborted and started again after 30 seconds.
Due to the small size of the keypad some users may find a rubber tipped pencil easier to use. DO NOT use the sharp tip of a ball point pen etc, or press excessively hard on the keypad as this will only damage the membrane and cause a digit to remain pressed, causing a continual incorrect PIN.

- The keypad allows only THREE PIN attempts and then will "Lock Up" if an incorrect number is entered a third time. This is a security feature to prevent random PIN attempts disarming the system.

Hope this helps.
