Question

Am about to collect my Impreza, imported from Belgium, & I need to fit an alarm.

Can anyone recommend an alarm and a reputable dealer to do so in the central/south London area?

Cheers

Mike

Question

Mike

You could try Cheam Motors. Give Jim Childs (Parts Manager) a ring on 020 8394 2262. I know they fit the barrier deadlock system. I'm sure Jim could recommend someone if they couldn't do it themselves. Have a look at

Question

Thanks for advice.

Sextons are quoting £320 (inc fitting) for Toad A850T Thatcham Category 2:1 Enhancement

"Many new vehicles are fitted with an insurance approved immobiliser and operate their remote central locking using an infra-red or RF transmitter.

The Toad A850 T enhancement system uses the original transmitter and upgrades the immobiliser to a full Thatcham Category 1 (Issue 2) alarm system with all the security features you would expect."

Any views as whether this is a 'best buy'?

I have a Toad AI606 on my car, very
pleased with it and can have a good
range of extras, although not as
extensive as the (of questionable
use) G4 extras.

Mike,

The OE immobiliser on Impreza/Legacy has never actually gone through Thatcham Cat 2 testing. You will need a full Cat 1 alarm system to keep to your insurance company happy.
Any questions call me at work tommorow

Question

I am getting a Toad AI606 fitted into my Impreza Sports.

Just a couple of quick questions:

1) Is £350 an extortinate price to pay for it?

2) Just how easy is it to nick a Scooby with a Toad alarm fitted to it?

3) How easy is the manufacturers immobilser to get around?

Cheers

Cool

Well guys,
First of all, get a scoob and fit a cat 1 alarm immob, got a clifford on my baby and its the bees knees, nice concept 600 plus turbo timer!! ok its around 600 quid but how much is your car worth??!!!!
To find the best fitters, ring up the manufacturer of the alarm and ask which qualified dealers there are in your area!
To Wino, well its passed a 5 min attack test, toad have a good reputation so you should be ok, 350 extortionate?? not if you want to keep your car!! just get a qualified engineer to fit it for you!

Tony

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR>Try Kardata in Denham, nr Uxbridge, Middx.(telephone 01895 834217)- around £350 for a Sigma alarm, that comes with a small keypad, so you can stop some low-life from stealing your keys from your house(as they did to a colleague's 323i). The keypad allows you to lock out the remotes, and can only be re-activated with a 4 digit pin.

Thanks for advice.

Eventually settled for a Toad Ai 606 from Sextons for £399 to fully satisfy insurance company. Got 6 months interest free credit too.

Interestingly, the guy who fitted the alarm said that Sextons own Toad !

Wonder if I've been victim to a 'hard sell' ?

Cheers

Mike I just got an Ai606 fitted for 350 squid. 399 is a bit much? how come you got charged so much?

Don't know about you, but I find the siren on it, dissappointingly low in volume

I asked the chap who fitted it, and he said there was some government legislation which restricts the dB's new car alarms can belt out.

Anyone know how I can increase the output to splitting ear drums capacity?

H Wino,
The guy who put my clifford in asked if i would also like the horn attaching to the alarm so it makes more noise!! (and trust me it does!) see if they can do that for you!!

Wino,

Didn't do much shopping around as i wanted something fitted ASAP. Was decidedly uncomfortable having my new scoob sitting around alarmless!

Maybe the extra 50 quid is to pay for the interest free ????

I'll see if they;ll wire up my horn too.

Mike

Yea I guess Mike, I felt exactly the same. Alarm gives minor piece of mind.

Its a shame there isn't alarms which take video pictures and beam it via the internet or some other transmission method. Then I would be able to catch the f*cker who put a dent in the door of my scooby.

Must calm down.

Toad came out with a 'Toad Eye' on board camera about 5 years ago that saved snapshots to memory in the car - obviously only any use if you got the car back and they hadn't found it! Did make prosecutions easier for the police though.

I'm surprised they haven't updated this to do some sort of wireless transmission.

This is slightly off topic but:-

When I was at the motorshow, I talked to one of the few alarm people there and they said that rather than replace the std alarm as its cat 1, add in a second siren so that when the scum thinks he's cut through one set of wires the noise doesn't stop and he gets miffed and hopefully moves on. Obvoiusly this second one has to be well hidden - not sat on full view in engine bay.

IIRC Doesn't trackstar monitor whether car moves (depending on cover level) whereas tracker ony works when you find its gone missing? Acording to RAC man you let them know when you're going away (leaving car - eg on holiday) and this triggers 24hr cover.

If this lot's been said then I'll go back to sleep!
