2002 wrx import : factory immobiliser thatcham approved ?
#1
Just bought 2002 wrx (uk spec. dutch import ). I need to know if the immobiliser ( chip in key type fitted at factory ) is thatcham approved. I'm having an RAC Trackstar fitted and checked with ins. co. and they said factory immobiliser would be okay with trackstar.

The words nope come into this somewhere
UK cars are fitted with a Sigma M30 alarm to give them Cat1 status, you will need to add a nice secure alarm system to your car, you have many choices but i would pay the price and go for either a Clifford 500 or the 600
Remember that you have just spent X ammout on your new car, decent security means that you wont have to worry about some g1t taking it in the night
Dont skimp on security! (also get yourself a nice disklok, the small one fits BTW

Technically the answer is yes, the immobiliser is approved, but only to cat 2 standards. You need an upgrade alarm rather than a full blooded alarm/imobiliser to get to Cat 1, which many companies want. Without it, you have no alarm whatsoever and no way of telling if someone breaks in.
Many of the upgrade alarms include an extra circuit of immobilisation, so improve security. My MY02 import had 24hr tracker equivalent and a cat 1 upgrade before I'd got the reg number through. As Tony says, don't skimp on security.
If you imported through an agency who guaranteed you full UK spec, you should speak to them. Mine agreed (no hassles at all) that the alarm upgrade was required for UK spec, so they refunded me the full cost.
