Does not appear on Morpheous database, but camera signs are in place

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap...arrow=N&zoom=5

Between southern end of Loch and turn for A83

It is on a clear straight ( of course ), and looks just like the SPECS cameras in Geodesy manual, even down to the style of the mounting pole. Pictures in manual are taken from the on-line guide

http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/specs.htm

If someone is passing this way please can they confirm ?

I certainly hope not, if so I'll have to find another way of getting between Glasgow & Inverness (already avoid the A9 because of the number of cameras)

I should be up that way on a week Friday, so if no one else has confirmed / denied I'll try to get a look then.

Also watch out on the A9 for the three/six rubber hoses mounted in the tarmac. These are for the mobile camera which uses the Autovision system at details are on ukspeedtraps. I've got all the sites programmed in the trafcam gps detector.

Highland region have also started using a laser gun linked up to a camera. Seen it a few times, it was also on that cars wars programme a couple of weeks ago.

Loads of cameras on A9 as you all know. I would like to point out that if you are referring to the 50mph stretch around Forfar that I fully agree with the limit and cameras in this location. I have witnessed 3 accidents at or around this spot, one in more detail than I really wished to (i'm a bit squeamish). It WAS/IS an accident blackspot and is precisely the kind of site that should have easily spotted speed cameras. The other cameras on the road are a complete joke, being sited behind road-signs and in sneaky positions forcing you to brake suddenly.

Just my 2p for what it's worth (2p perhaps?)

Cool

The place with the 2 cameras on the A9 is at Balinluig. It's also a bad juction with quite a few fatals on it, so have to agree it's a good spot for one. Until recently they hid the southbound camera behind a signpost, but it's now quite visible. There's also a northbound one at the same bit. Northbound it's just after the dual carriageway starts, southbound it's just before it finishes, just before the left turn to services (funnily enough !!).
I drive the road quite a bit so have become quite familiar with the permanent ones

That bit mentioned with the 2 cameras also has a camera on the other side that will flash if you go above 50MPH southbound i.e. flash you at the front.

Now I know they cant do you for it and I dont partcularly care about that but at dusk when you dont expect it flashing, it is VERY dangerous and can blind you quite easily with the glare.

Yes I was speeding (around 56MPH) as I had let my speed creep up and it flashed.

I think its just on the Inverness side of the footbridge..... Not sure, only driven that road the once so cant quite remember (it was around 8 months ago)

Badly adjusted camera I guess. Pretty ironic that they install a camera to improve safety that actually makes it more dangerous !! Then again, if you weren't speeding......

Is the camera on the Loch Lomond road really a SPECS one, or is it for catching road tax dodgers, the two cameras look similar-ish, but you only need one for tax?

Question

Madou,

Can you be a tad more specific about the location?

Between southern end of Loch and turn for A83
That only cuts it down to about 13 miles. Also is it North or South bound.
What is the significance (if any) of the arrow on your map? It isn't even on the route you appear to suggest.

I was up there three weeks ago (assuming that you don't mean the Tarbert - Crianlarich section) and didn't see any .

There are two blue Trafficmaster cameras though (one North bound, just before the wooden footbridge which I think is just after the Southern Luss turn-off - this one is on a long clear straight, and one South bound which is near the Northern Luss turn-off), are these possibly what you saw?

Hmmmm... I drive this road twice a week.

Trafficmaster cameras described by alter_ego have been there for about a year and a half now.

The arrow on the map seems to be pointing to where there is a straight(ish!) bit of road.... coming north, you pass the Loch Sloy hydro electric station on your left, followed by a touristy blue rinse tour bus parking area a few hundred yards on the right. It's a place I often pass slow-moving vehicles. No cameras though.

The only recent development near here is on the A82. About a mile south of Tyndrum, there is a great bit for overtaking.... a straight of at least half a mile, nice and wide. There have been speed camera warning signs up for at least 4 years... Never seen any though.
IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS: Right in the middle of the straight.... Freshly painted "Gatso"-style white lines on both sides of the road. Cameras (fixed or mobile) surely to follow.
Weekend blasts: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

EYEMAJIC, I think I have the answer to your new white lines on the road, have just been told that the police are using helicopters on the A82 to do bikers between glasgow and Tyndrum. Most of the bikes stop for a bite to eat and chat in the coffe house at tyndrum so the patrol car sits there, the chopper radios them the bike numbers and plod waits for them to stop then does half a dozen at once! Coupled with a 5 month speeding blitz and automatic bans for over 90 i suggest u find another road or start watching thru the sunroof!!

Default 50MPH next to Loch Lomond on A82

And the single file per direction, extremely narrow and curvy A82 next to Loch Lomond with full of blind curves has a 50MPH limit.

Driving at 50MPH over there is obviously not safe.

In drive the a couple of times and I literally felt myself in a videogame. if I no ever sped up to 50, I had to slow down at every curve. Literally in every 500 metres.
