He likes to drive on/over the limit, but keeps it on the track where it is safe to do so and this I believe is his first major off after many track days.

Hope he gets it sorted soon. Sympathies m8, gutted for you.

I've got to agree with telling off numpty at the top of the post. Couldn't give a **** about the Impreza.....mmmm, nice person to know.

The car was not being driven incorrectly, rather him having a bit fun on his own on the track, which is the place to do it. The accident was just a bit of bad luck.

Why do people always have to post cr@p messages in a forum where it is not welcome.

I'm sure the owner of the car will post here to give his comments, although this will only result in mud slinging from outside the circle.

this could happen to anyone so a bit of support would have been nice.

you can drive your car which ever way you want on track as long you are not endangering other drivers, which he was not.


even the pros make mistakes. so lets hope that you don't as no body will actually give a toss if you do

You think going sideways, intentionally I may add,
into Duffus Dip at what must be have been 70 ish MPH, reasonable driving for a track day? Nah! I thought it was just a matter of time before the marshalls pulled him. I said minutes before the session stopped that someting was going to happen! Off course I don't like to see ppl getting hurt, and especially don't like seeing nice cars crashing, so please don't tar me with the Max Power brush!

I never expected this reaction, I wasn't the only person their that held the same opinion!

and 70 mph in to duffis is not that quick if you have driven it you would know all about the feeling of safe track day fun

On a BTCC day for demo laps he would have got loads of cheers from the crowds...

Just to add my thoughts - I was the passenger in the aforementioned incident, therefore probably better postioned to comment on this than anyone other than the driver - and certainly better than someone sitting inside their car at the other side of the circuit.

Comments like the initial one in this thread are unhelpful, inaccurate and basically not needed.

Now I've both driven and been driven on Knockhill on lots of occasions over the last 7 or 8 years, including by Knockhill instructors and in some pretty exotic machinery. I have to say that john's driving and standard of car control are as good as I have experienced during this time, and being sat beside him was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had at Knockhill. Accidents do happen, and even the most skillful of drivers will succumb to the law of averages and have an off now and then.

Indeed - the track is the best place for you to learn where the limits are, and how best to recover from a situation outwith these limits.

I would have no hesitation going back on track with john in the future - which speaks for itself. The first thing john asked after we'd come to a halt was if I was okay - as he himself said cars can be fixed - it's a bit different with people.

I've also just been looking back at the in-car footage of the accident and with the benefits of slow motion, there is nothing that john could have done to recover the situation once the car was on the rumble strip - indeed it could have been much worse.

Oh - and thanks for your concern about the people involved in the accident. I'm fine thanks...

I'd like to say thanks to john for what was an enjoyable trackday, and hope you get it sorted out

I'd also like to add that we spoke to the circuit marshals after the session had closed - all of whom said they had no problem with the standard of driving, and that they were more than happy with him attending the next trackday.

I have also been passenger in said car going sideways into duffus dip and I can assure you that it was well under control, the move was repeated probably 50+ times throughout the track day

How do you know you are on the edge if you never step over it ? Name 1 quick driver that has never done this.

I don't suppose you can expect a FWD driver to appreciate the fine art of powersliding a 4wd car

I have been to many Knockhill track days, hot marques evenings, and SIDC meets. I've never seen anyone drive quite like that before. Beleive me I was not the only one that thought something was going to happen! When you're standing at the hairpin and can still the car screeching at the other side of the circuit you know the guy is pushing it really hard!

Of course I've never driven a scoob, never been on a track day (however I will try the next Hot marque evening!), so fell free to shoot down my opinion, because, of course, it can't be valid, can it?

I was at KH tonight with BlueNose (172) and my m8 Graeme (Ibiza Cupra 20VT) we all said to each other that "nutters" going to crash. And guess what he did, but when someone drives like that what does he expect? I hope he had proper track day insurance? Does he have to pay a massive excess etc? Anyway it was a good night, first time id seen an Evo 7 in the flesh and boy doesn’t it look boring compared to the Evo 6!

If 70 mph into Duffus is too quick, then what was I doing at 65-70 mph on my first track day under complete control into Duffus - and anyone will tell you I was by far the most conservative in the corners of the whole night (of any car) with only the odd bit of tyre squeal at turn in, applying power too early out of corners and one or two episodes where the back stepped out a tiny bit on the exit to bends.

first time out as a passenger at knockhill, i have been round a few times driving tho... i'm not the best of passengers... i do like to be in control.

i went out with T-uk on his first run of the evening... bloody awesome fun it was. sideways galore, felt really safe and in control. Didn't un-nerve/worry/panic me at all... i just came off (oo er) with a great big grin on me face... Well done!

unfortunately the grass decided to take a wheel later on and helped to cause the accident... nuthin to do with the sideways action of course

IMHO the scoob was within control capabilities... just an unfortunate catching the grass and off event occurred... no-one was hurt, fun was had (untill the off)

gutted for you , hope yer back soon.
