Even worse response from Nobles 'not a problem, and nothing we can do about it'
Ended up getting it replaced under warranty at S&S in Ayr at approx 24K miles and have had all my servicing done there since then.

Being an ex Subaru bod I'll chip in my 2p's worth.
Every clutch replacement has to be authorised by IM warranty department. They take into account the mileage the car has done & usually if its above 15K they ask the dealer for a report on the condition of the centre plate...ie. how worn is it.The highest milage warranty replacement I did was at 28K, the car was just over 1 year old & did mainly motorway miles.
After replacecment, the old parts are returned for inspection. If they check out OK then the claim gets paid, so there is a risk involved for the dealers hence their reluctance.

I had mine replaced at 37000 miles when it was nearly 3 years old. It was replaced because of judder (both clutch and flywheel). The work was carried out at the same time as the piston slap fix, so this may have affected their decision about warranty cover. The dealer was not optimistic when the claim to IM was made and I was expecting to have to pay for the clutch work myself. To my surprise they did cover the claim so it is worth pushing for it.

Had clutch and flywheel replaced by T&C Aberdeen when I got a new short motor to remedy the piston slap problem I had. Just mentioned in it passing to when the car went in, they phoned back agreeing that it was faulty. All done under warranty.
'98 with one month of warranty and 34,000 miles under the wheels when this was all done.
Nice one!

I've asked for my clutch to be checked at my last two services. Both were done at Nobles & the answer was that there were no problems and "the clutch is still fully serviceable". It is apparently "a feature of the car & you should try a MY99 if you think your's is bad"
By the way I have a 97 Catalunya that had done 27K & 34K respectively at the services.
Incidently, I also asked the mto check for piston slap & was told that the rattling noise when cold is "just the tappets rattling until the oil circulates & nothing to worry about"
