PANEL FILTER OR INDUCTION KIT
Hi guys gettin a map soon and wondered if i was better getting an induction kit rather than just a green panel filter. induction kit i was looking at was the hks super power flow number. my car is a 52 plate blob eye with full decat 3" system.

Got a green panel filter too. Lot better than the standard one, induction kit will sound good but it will draw in hot air from engine bay and could result in power loss, which obviously you dont want!!

Best of the bunch is the STi panel filter, or K&N.
If you MUST go for an induction kit, only get an APS cold air kit.

STi panel filter the way to go. If you are getting this done by Andy F he will tell you there is no point in either an induction kit or aftermarket panel filter. He will tell you to get a intercooler Y pipe though. Standard one is very restrictive so spend your cash on a beneficial item!

Seriously, speak to Andy he'll say not to bother with the filter and he knows his stuff. Up to you though!
Got mine from Roger Clark Motorsport at Andy's suggestion but can get knock off kits for less than the Samco one. Also, haggle with them. I did! EDIT comes to about £90 for Y piece, throttle link and dv pipe. comes as a set.

i have an my00 sti it had a paper panel filter in it,definatly worth changing, i got the k&n before coming here most recommend the green filter, k&n cant be bad though its what most racing teams use

Yes chap. quite easy but good to get a mate yo help you lift it off/align it back up again. Alternatively any garage should be able to fit it very quickly if you are concerned.
TBH i didn't fit the pipe from the DV though, car was hot (stupidly) and there was no way to get it off without getting crispy hands! The Y pipe is the important one though. You'll see why when you remove the intercooler.

yeah bud seen pics of the oem one, constrictive is not the word lol. i'll have a bash myself got a guide for removing the intercooler. looks simple enough. did you secure with jubilee clips?

Just reused the ones that were already there. The intercooler is only a couple of bolts. the Tricky bit is lifting it away at the front, better if two of you do it as it is much smoother. Also one can loosen the standard pipe and help pull it away from the car.
if you imagine it sitting in the car the turbo is to the left as you look at the engine head on. This means the Y pipe (hard plastic thing) needs to slide right once it has been loosened. However, there is also the small pipe from the front of the intercooler so that needs to slide back at the same time and of course you need to lift it all clear. Only takes a second, and sounds more complicated than it is but should give you an idea!
