Kames, Sunday 5th August
#1
The SIDC have booked exclusive use of the Kames Motorsport Facility on
Sunday 5th August.
We have exclusive use of the sprint track throughout the day, which will be
open from about 10am onwards.
We will also be holding a BBQ (subsidised for SIDC members so remember to
bring your membership cards!), which we'll fire up about 11:30 and try to
keep going throughout the day for the hungry ones amongst us ;-)
In a deviation from our usual track events, only one car at a time is
permitted on the track, and you are free to go around as quickly or as
slowly as you like. From a standing start, you will do 3 laps before
returning to the paddock area and lining up for another run. It should take
about 1 ½ to 2 minutes to complete your three laps, so brake wear and tyre
wear should be minimal
The cost to take part is a mere £20, for which you'll get as many runs as
you can fit in during the day, and all you can eat at the BBQ You will
be asked to sign an indemnity form when you arrive. Please note that no-one
will be allowed out on the track without wearing a crash helmet, so remember
to bring one along with you as there are none available for hire on the day.
The fee is per driver, and not per car so you have to pay twice if two
people want to share the one car.
There is no charge if you just want to come along and watch.
I know lots of you have informed me before that you are coming along, but I
need confirmation now so I know how much food to buy for the BBQ. Could you
please send me an e-mail

Thanks for all the replies so far. Places are filling up nicely
We are up to about 20 cars taking part so far, with a few maybes who are coming along for the food, and might take their car out on the track, depending on how much fun it looks
As well as the Imprezas, we also have a few Elises taking part, and it will be interesting to see the behaviour of the different cars around the track.
I've also been informed that we should be able to set-up a speed camera, to record peak speeds along one of the straights. Who will be the fastest ?

Would I be able to come? I drive a fairly highly modified Mini (around 110bhp) and would love to have a crack at Kames.
As it is only 1 car on at a time I wouldn't become a mobile chicane for the Imprezas.

Matthew,
If you catch the Kames bug while you're there with the scoobies you could always come back in the first week in September. Apparently the Mintax Mini Club are trying to arrange a Mini event that weekend. I'll pass on further details as and when I hear them.
Cheers,
ColinU.
P.S.
I'm scooby-less right now so should be at Kames with my Wife's Cooper S5 on Aug 5th, possibly returning for the Mintax event too.

Can anyone come to this event? I was going to come along in my
Exige to spectate and see the track as I haven't been to it
before.
Is this OK?
P.S. What are the directions to it?
Thanks

As far as I know anyone can attend. Directions taken from a previous John S post:
From Glasgow go down the M74, off at Junction 11. Follow Signes for A70 / Ayr. Go through Douglas, then Glespin. Muirkirk is next. Turn Left at the Couch House Pub.
Follow (bumpy) road to Kames.
From the South as before except J12.

OK John, sorry
You will notice the space before the S, I was just too lazy to type your fullname in
BTW, ever thought of changing your name, just to make it easier for the rest of us?

John, this is shaping up to be a good event, shame I can't make it
For anyone else who can't make it on the day, we have regular visits to Kames during the summer months with the SS-R car club. It's free to join but no sheds are allowed

There has been an unffortunate development. Having spent the weekend driving 1200 miles all over Scotland on an EVO forum meet my gearbox has died a horrific death. I'm going down to Devon until Friday so won't be able to repair it in time.
I'm very disappointed as you can imagine.
Hopefully see you there if you have another one.

About 1 hour after I posted for meeting places I got offered an overtime shift, so I'll be giving Kames a miss, as I'm a greedy person. See most of you at the RR day.

Hello chaps, if any of you are intending coming to Kames on Sunday to watch, can you pop a post on here if you want to partake of the Barbie (so no one goes hungry).

Just a reminder that if you intend to come along, even if it's just to watch, then you must e-mail myself (and the other John S as well ) so we can update the list of people attending, and know how much food to buy.
If you turn up wihout informing us in advance by e-mail, then chances are there won't be any food for you!

John,
Still in discussion with Vicki (cleaned the oven) looks a bit more promising, had a couple of those looks so fingers crossed.
As I said on the phone I’ll be there and weather will determine if Vicki and the boy appear. Alan might come down later in the day
See you Sunday
David
