Question Wallace Performance Remap

Went up to Aberdeen on friday to stay the night before my remap on friday, thanks to wetherspoons for providing cheap drink, cant beat it. Anyway.....

Had my car remapped on Saturday, took around 5 hours . Unfortunatly the rolling road wasn't ready, didn't matter though . After getting the car back took it easy, as you do through the town. "hi to all Aberdeen scoobyneters, loads of scoobs up in Aberdeen, all must have good taste.
Once on the open road i didn't notice much diference in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but 4rth 5th and 6th pulled alot harder.
Instead of the boost dying off higher up the revs it just seems to pull.
Very happy with the difference , money well spent as far as im concerned.
All the guys up at wallace performance are spot on and a pleasure to deal with,

Thanks Guys

I hope it is better than the last car from the same place, it was pinking/knocking that bad that it couldn't be run on the rolling road !

Dastek Perhaps :

Second run for him was better though and they said it would pretty much be fine on a normal road - it is being redone to Wallaces credit on their new rollers.

Thumbs up

Hi Ross, I guess your car was the JDM STi.

Gavin remapped my 03 STi a couple of weeks ago and did a great job, I would recommend him to anyone. Now that he has the rollers going in it should make things easier as well.

Just in response to the car with the Det problem, I have spoken to the customer it concerns and have offered to fix the problem at his earliest convienience. I am however concerned why this is happened as it's the first car I have had this problem with. I think it may have developed a fault somewhere but we will find this and sort it out asap.

Thank you for the kind words Ross and Marc. Hope to see you on the rollers again!

Mapping isn't the only thing that can cause a car to det.......
Putting in 95 octane fuel after the car was mapped for 98 for instance.....

Ignition advance multiplier on the new age cars is quite dynamic. The det was quite pneumatic drill like and obvious on the first run on the rollers without det cans just standing next to the bonnet in the noisy dyno cell, reduced a bit on the second and then could not be heard on the third and was just heard through the det cans. If Delta Dash was hooked up I expect the advance multplier would have dropped. As long as it doesn't det on the road it should be OK. Sometimes cars can det on the rollers because the ignition timing on the road is suddenly unsuitable. On the road or track as the car gets hotter the ECU can often better keep up with the knock control requirements as things happen more slowly than suddenly putting your car in a hot dyno cell.

Worth a knocklink on every Subaru unless standard and under warranty as long as you have the car IMHO. On anything modified it is a must I reckon.

Even standard cars benefit I'd say (particularly P1's !!). It'll at least give you an idea to ease off if you get a bad tank of optimax !
Ok the warranty would pay for a new engine, but I'd rather not have the hassle tbh!

Thank you John, Didn't want to go into how the ECU reads and acts to det on here but since you did I'll enforce this.

On the road the ECU has a base ignition map on which the Car with never go less than. There is then a seperate table/map - ignition advance - which adds to the base map to give an overall timing advance. There is another factor that comes in that dictates the fraction of the ign advance map used. This is called the Advanced Multiplier. This is a number from 1 to 16 that is then divided by 16 to give a number that's less then 1. This figure is dictated by the amount of detenation heard by the knock sensor. In simple terms,
overall ign advance = Base ign + (Advance Multiplier Value x Ignition advance)

There are other factors/tables that come into play that give further accuracy in the amount of timing added/taken off but I don't feel it's worth going into this.
