Question Mackay Trading - Edinburgh

Anyone had any dealings with them, I am interested in a motor they have but just wanted some feedback on them.

Overpriced by a long way but better quality stock than another importer from around the Calders area

PS IMHO of course although a bit of research (ie. visit both ) will reveal this to be fact

Cheers

Been down there a couple of times and they seem to know very little about the motors they're selling. ie no service history, documents etc.
Seem pretty pricey as well, but it's been a while since I was down there, and they may be very negotiable !
What motor you looking at ??

Have been there a few times in the past.
The guy seemed very happy for me to nose around, and have a test drive if i wanted.
Cars seem to be well presented, although some of the older stock had gathered lots of dust..
And, as above, they dont seem to have the overall knowledge on the vehicles.

Although, that was a while ago when i was last there. So not really in a proper position to warn you off..or tell you to buy.

Bought off him a couple of years ago (paid over the odds, but hey...thats when I wiz a bit flush),his(the main man) attitude is Rank along with his after sales, but like above ,his cars are tops. Went to see him a couple of months ago and he hasn't changed......Say what ye like about Calders but Ive had 2 fi them wi no hassles ,and they are a lot more of a pleasure to deal with.

Remember JVS.............................

I"ve bought from Mackay's.
Their prices are not set in stone...........whatever the price is...................take £1000 off.As I got a grand off without much hassle............seriously,thats the way he prices the cars. He'll put a six grand car on at seven. The way he see's it is that if u know better u'll get the grand off,if u're stupid then u won't know any better.
The quality off his cars isn't in question,in fact I got an STi my94(version 1)for pennies and the guys at AWD in perth think it's a one of the best 1994 cars they've seen.
My opinion is to buy from them/haggle alot/check out JVS as well............but if u do buy from Mackays don't let them service the car............find someone else(ie somewhere with a Select Monitor that really knows their stuff.)

Marc, give me an email and let me know what car you are looking at. A friend of mine just got a car from JVS and they seem to be really helpful with after sales etc.

cheers bud

Another vote here for Andy and Peter from JVS. Got my car last year with them and they have been nothing but great. They have always done servicing, but just to those in the know. Recommend them highly even after going to buy from them with my eyes shut.

You could buy Kart-Mans higher powered R33 GTR for a lower price....

***shameless attempt to plug Daves car (if he's still selling it)***

Agree pretty much with everyone else's comment about Mackays.
Both myself and my brother bought our cars from there, cars r fab, couldnt have been more helpful when i was looking, but aftersales SUCKS. Warranty aint worth the paper it's on, and once you've paid for the car, they never answer the phone to you or return ur calls! But as I say, my baby's sound!

That R34 certainly looks the business. 1st one I've seen at a reasonable price. Boyakasha and Spooks.....race you there, as I may go by for a look as well. I've had the urge to change for a couple of weeks now.

My car was from JVS too and have had no problems...Andy and Peter will get you exactly what u want...they always get good cars with loads of goodies

Calders - Personally, would avoid (altho George is very good with his cars)
Mackay - always knocks 1k off the price if he senses u r serious...very aloof but nice cars - overpriced tho...

JVS - Rock solid, good prices, good quality....

Good luck

Shocker its the R34 for £29,995, I wish it was silver at £17,995 but at that prive it would hvae probably been used in a Ram Raid

Spook, evojkp if either of you are going to have a look at the car I would appreciate your thoughts on it as I am up in Aberdeen so don't realy want to wast my time traveling all that way if the car isn't mint.

Cheers

It's to do with the "Model report". If there isn't one available then they can't get through ESVA.

Unless you have an SVA already booked you cant get a test for Any GTR's manufactured later that 1.1.97

No more R34s

This may change in the future if someone produces a model report but that is not easy nor cheap.

This is also the case for some models of Scoobs and evo 5s etc
