Question

A former colleague has told me that his son-in-law (you can see that this is not exactly first hand information) has been to a bike track day at the former US airforce base at Edzel (nr Brechin). Aparently it was much cheaper than KH.

Does anyone know if there has been car trackdays there ?

If so is it good ?

CT,

Edzell (aye, the air base) was the planned venue a single ADMC hosted event in the Scottish Sprint Championship in July 2002.

It may have featured on the calendar in previous years but I wasn't paying attention.

I seem to remember (but could be wrong) that this event was cancelled and never run (foot and mouth ?).

I have heard of Edzell being used for auto-test events (like the ones in the AECC carpark) but not much more.

Ages ago, JohnS and I discussed looking into having an SIDC sprint there - but I've not spoken to him about it since.

I have heard of there being bike events there but I've no idea what format or whatever.

Somebody who could comment on this would be John Stevenson - but I haven't seen him on here for ages.

It'd have to be a coned course - so wouldn't be suitable for a trackday as such but fine for a sprint.

Remember that guy who brought the part finished bike engined car to KH for you to see ? - was it not the case that he was attending some sort of event there the following weekend ?

Na ! He was taking the car to a kart track at or near Banff.

A sprint at Edzel would be good though !

Was there recently for a rally test day, there is an (admittedly small) area that would be OK for trackdays but as far as I can gather there are feasability studies being done now to see if this is viable to be used/expanded for motorsport purposes. They were testing noise polution when we were there, and there were complaints then( imagine if they heard 20-30 scoobs )
Dont know if this is any use to you.

Question

what sort of lengths are the straights at this place, could you get a scoob flat out?

be good if us scots could offer a scooby shootout type event. a long straight would also be a bonus for mapping sessions.

The future of RAF Edzell is a good one if everybody behaves themselves. We are currently trying to make this a permanent venue for motorsport but are struggling due to the lack of marshalls for events.
Saturday the 29th of November brings to you the B52 stages at the airfield.40miles comprising of 6 stages on 100% smooth tarmac.
The event is jointly run between the RSAC and DCC (dunfermine car club).
The event was ran as a counter for the 2001 STRC rally championship and believe me the straights were flat out in 5th gear doing well over 120mph on the rev limiter when an Escort WRC passed us as if we were stationary!!!god knows what speed he was doing.

If you want to help out marshalling at this event and also get a chance to see the course because as you know marshalls get to those bits that spectators don`t.
We are club stewards at the event so if you want to help out start by listing your names below.

Hope that helps guys.

what we need at edzel is 1/4 mile racing.
the guy that owns the place could be making big money
for not a lot of outlay, plus it would give me somewhere to run my skyline.

Latest information for those wishing to marshall is the following:

The event is on the 29th of Novemeber. First car is off at 9.30 so marshal's would have to be there for a marshal's meeting at 8.30. They will be given a meal ticket each.......

Any updated news will appear here.

As far as I know the Sprint was cancelled on cost basis, but don't take that as the Holy Grail. Fantastic venue though by the looks of it.
