Went to see an STI version ? last night (details not given to protect the guy, just incase he doesn't know!) He said it was a version 4, however no colour coded skirts, no new dash, but had everthing else, engine, short shift etc etc. When taking the GC8 number, it came up as a MY94 AWD automatic!!! Does anyone know if STI's came with dodgy identification numbers as I know some of them are registered as 1.8GL'S??
Price was excellent, however wanted to double check
Any help desperately wanted/appreciated.

I've checked this info in about 5 different places, including a fax from STi Japan and it works out as you said.

1.Series code G=Impreza
2.Body type C=Sedan
3.Engine 8=2.0L Turbo
4.Year code B=MY94
5.Number of doors 4=4 door saloon 5
6.Model type 8=WRX
7.Transmission P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

Can you also get the other info off the plate ?
If it was an Auto it should be one of these
