Red face

Hey in my search for a car I can across a W plate uk turbo, all was going well until I opened the boot Found rust coming through on the inner rear wings were the boot closes on both sides also the lower trim strip under the nearside rear cluster. Is this a known problem or a strange 1 off?

Sounds like it's been rear-ended to me, rust isn't a common complaint on these cars despite the awful paint quality. I've had a couple of tiny spots where the paint has been worn through (by the rubber bump stop on the bootlid), but that's all. Mine's a MY00 V reg.

If the car's been neglected that badly, walk away. A couple of tiny rust spots should just get fixed - I had them done under warranty and now it's good as new. If the owner's inclined to ignore that sort of obvious maintenance, what else has been ignored?
