Well done to Wuz and his beast (his brother piloted his scoob, cos he is still offshore ) Wuz reckons he is pushing 330BHP, that sort of time proves he is right

Hopefully BHP Developments should have it running in the low 11s or high 10s in a couple of months Tho there might be some competion in house ie a DBM MY00 running silly amounts of BHP as well

Hi Wuz. Was it your car (the red one) that I raced against when I missed 3ed gear (Silver R33)? If so, I thought your car was a bit quick! We were pretty much neck and neck until my awful gear change I think! The low 12s is the sort of time I'd hope for with good start and gear changes. The fastest Impreza I've seen - well done!

Hi Guys not one's for piping our trumpet but david ran a 12.36 last year in his white scooby with not very many mods.
Our NISMO pulsar is running in the 12.4's and has been quickest 2.0L turbo 4 times this year and it's still under development. This car has only cost £3.5K to build so far....
Not forgeting my black impreza (whoosh) last year at street car championships in August it was running in the 12.9 secs this we were very happy with.
Both cars are still getting more mods all the time.

Question

You'd need over 500 BHP to get into the 10s at standard weight, probably more like 550 BHP?

Is the discrepancy between the 12.6 and 12.3 figures due to the the inclusion/exclusion of reaction times?

apparently the 12.6 included the reaction time from what I was told.

Hey, what do I know...I'm stuck in the middle of the north sea at the moment

I know that Andy F and John Banks have faster cars - I have never denied that. All I am saying is what I have been shown via fax from Aberdeen is the sheet with runs times and reaction times which shows we got a 12.3

I am not boasting about it...............I was just happy that the car achieved such a good time. There is no need for any bitterness amongst fellow scoobynetters

Everybody be cool, you be cool!

JB - who said anything about "standard weight" or drivetrain

Grant - We really cannot call Dave car running 1.8 Bar " a mildly-modded car" can we?. No offence to you or Dave as you guys rebuilt the engine on my car!

Subtle hint for you - I am off to Australia very soon. Plus, my brother in law has some very high-up and influentual friends working for Prodrive in the states.

That's all that BHP Developments are saying for now.. Let's all wait and see shall we?

Russell

At present I'm not planning over 450 BHP as I think it would be a nightmare to drive anywhere other than on track, what you would gain in top end would be lost in real world torque delivery.

As Wuz said we are planing big things for either one or both of BHP Developments cars. I had a set of plans drawn up for a my car about a year ago, which Wuz can confirm, that was going to be an absolute monster. Its not going to be cheap, but if my calcs work out it should be relatively easy to drive in everyday circumstances, with a nice torque/bhp curve. Things will happen slightly further up the rev range, but there will be no NOS (unless it is used to cool the charge air). Drive train will be seriously uprated. As for a final BHP figure well you'll just have to guess at that. Hopefully it will be a first in the UK!

You tell them son - It's time someone took the "you'll never make a 10 second car out of a subaru" myth and binned it

Good luck guys,

All i`m gonna add here is that myself and a few other well known scoobynetters have been tryin for the last few years to reach the golden 11 secs in a scoob n got no where near it. Even when pushing things so far as to break a good few gearboxes (5 at the last count for me) & engines (still on number 2) in the process. Think the closest up2 now was Andy`s 11.8 and the best I had was a measly lo 12. But hey we`re all listening fellas and waiting 2 b educated. I`m sure our man Tony R wouldn`t mind knowing how 2 break the 10 second barrier on a budget

So c`mon guys, do educate us. I 4 one would lurv 2 know what I shoulda spent my last £8K of repair bills on

Unhappy

Pete - Define Budget? people spend 10 grand on getting an engine build for them and 5 of it is 100's of hours in labour for "blueprinting", porting , etc. We'll have no labour charges - just parts. Suddenly a 10 grand budget has become a 5 grand budget

also, I did NOT say it would get under 10 seconds, I said it would be a 10 second car ie, high 10's.There is a difference.

If John Banks feels he can get 450 out of his car and people are accepting the possibility of this then why are Martin and I being laughed off the board for trying to get 50 hp more? (no offence John - I do hope you do it just do show the non believers). Is it because we are unknown in the world of Subaru Tuning? 2-3 years ago nobody knew of Tony R (RIGOLI?) now he seems to be a god in Australia! Funny how things change one people see what you can do!

That added to the contacts and ongoing trade negotiations with certain Japanese, Australian ( it's amazing how cheaply family who work in international shipping can get a container from OZ to here for), British and American companies and the end result will be very, very good

Just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it cannot be done. We hoped to get some enthusiasm about doing this but all we have had so far is mainly negative "no chance" comments. Where's all the community spirit that made me start using Scoobynet all those years ago?

Russell

ps I cannot confirm exactly how much of the final car will be "original", but it will be enough to still call it an Impreza (May not be 4WD though!)

Cool

Wuz,

Just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it cannot be done.
Hey I would hope so otherwise we`ve all just been waisting our time for the last few years :P And I jus wasted a bucket load of cash marrying an STi4 engine to a wrx drivetrain, with an aftermarket ECU, straight flowed TD05 and machining various other odds n ends
Hell Sam & I sat down early last year & figured on paper what we needed 2 have a 10 second ish impreza (the full car i.e. AWD not just the shell) and I can tell you for nothing that u`ll b stretched 2 do it on £8K m8, but hey prove me wrong PLEASE.

Now as said previously we are all waiting with baited breath to be educated bud so if u know something we`vee missed lets see what u got Ok if the cars 2 b used only for straight lining then yeah changing the drivetrain to RWD is an investigated & valid option. If u want to corner however, then maybe a little rethink will be required

Good luck & keep us up2 d8 on progress fella.

Pete

No one, certainly not I, am saying no chance, but it is nowhere near as easy as many think to get power out of a Subaru. 450 BHP will be no problem since the present spec is within 5% of my target I believe and the engine capacity is going up 18% It is not unbelievable to get 50 BHP more, but there is a huge cost and reliability/driveability issue.

Certainly I've no objections to people knowing what I've done so far and will do. Pete is not too secretive, neither is Andy Would be interesting to discuss your plans and all learn from each other - suspect it may also save you a heck of a lot of solitary development work too as there are many promising avenues to big power that have been closed by the bitter route of experience and expense already.

At a rough estimate I will probably have spend £15k on getting what I want out of the car, and the only real labour component is the engine build.

Yes I do think it will be worth it - not to sell, but to me And no, it won't be in the 10s I don't think, even remotely.

Hmmm

10 sec car you guys been watching the Fast and the Furious Lately

Like pete said if getting up the 1/4 in 10.oatcake gets you hard then fine! just that the corners are generally more fun

well i think so anyway

Does anyone know what the current crop of wrc cars would a 1/4 mile in? they have circa 350ish bhp but ??? torque, anyone? oh and not forgetting the fancy diffs and sequential box's
