First Scooby - 1999 T 2000 AWD
Hi Folks
Having spent the last few years competing in Sprint events in my Sapphire Cosworth and breaking the engine twice(!!) I kept threatening to buy one to use for Sprints.
I done a couple of Rally days in Imprezas and was amazed at the handling so I was bound to end up getting one sooner or later!
Last week a neighbour put his 1999 Classic up for sale on his driveway. (140k, No Mods, Mica blue, WRX wheels, lots of history). It has bubbling around both rear arches, but now i understand this is fairly normal!! He had asked £2,495, I immediately called into him and done the deal there and then at £1,850. Now, I have a couple of questions which i would like to hear your advice on:
Have i paid too much?!!
What should i be looking out for (engine probs, timing belt etc?)
What mods, if any would you recommend?
As i will be using it mainly just for Sprints on airfields etc etc, I was originally going to strip it out, put in a cage and bucket seat, harness etc. Now i am not so sure as it is in very good condition and maybe it is best left original.
Your thoughts???

what's the rest of the body like? I got mine knowing the rear arches wanted doing, the seller stated they'd been quoted £250 to have them done. I thought that was less than what it would be but the cheapest quote I've had to get them done properly, all the rot cut out including inner arches is £600, now given that both bumpers have scuffs, a few stone chips to the bonnet, lacquer peel on rear spoiler I'm getting quote of around £1200 that's just to make it presentable.......never mind any mechanicals

But with any car a good root about on every aspect of an 100k+ car is recommended. Buying it blind and paying as much as you did is not a good starter to be honest but it's your toy and you could now do with it what you wish. It will probably suck up a fair budget to get it mint but I hope you have a good go and don't wreck it.
