Hi guys,
I've got a 97 UK turbo with standard seats (basic ones so no height adj)
I'm looking to change them as at 6'3 I could do with a height adjustable drivers seat, from what I can see it's only the angle of the seat base that's adjustable but every little helps!
Is there any seats found in classics that are perceived to be the best/most gripping version? I.e are Type R/STi seats better than those from a UK car, or are they all the same regardless of model/version? Not interested in newage seats as I understand they give a higher driving position which is the last thing I need!

Hi, I have the same car. Just fitted STI V3 seats which has height adjustment on the drivers side. To be honest it does not drop it much but you can tell the difference. As far as comfort and hold I think they are the same but being a little lower gives a better position. Got mine from scoobyspares in Fleetwood. They are embrioded sti v3 and are I believe a alcantera type material on the base with red wing tops.
Worth giving them a call, can't recommend them enough, only paid£80.00 and they are in lovely condition.

Cheers RScustom, exactly what I needed to hear. So it sounds like on facelifts at least there are two types, basically the same seat in terms of design but non adjust for UK/poss WRX cars and adjustable for STi's. By the way I've noticed on the side of an adjustable drivers seat there's a lever for the backrest and then two adjuster *****, do these both do the seat base? The red colour would work for me being as I have a green car, blue wouldn't really work.
By the way, did you get your hands on that McRae in the end?
Don't suppose anyone knows if STi's all had a fixed rear bulkhead or if it was an option? Reason being if I change the front seats I'd like to get the rears as well to match, however I need to be able to keep folding rear seats so I can get my bike in the car.

The 2 adjusters alter the front and back of the seat base. I have lowered the rear but kept the front up to offer leg support. They are so much better.
I did get the Mcrae yes, but something had to give so sold the MK2 RS2000. I never used it, 700 miles in 3 years!!
Only driven the Mcrae 3 miles to my parents garage. When work calms down will bring it home.
Selling the MK2 has made the wife very happy, she is getting a new kitchen now and I get to keep the red Scooby.

If you're 6'3 don't put new age seats in a classic. I'm 6'1 and thought I could live with the hight of them, I was wrong! My wr1 seats are now up for sale and my uk classic seats(x reg so 2000) with hight adjustment on drivers seat, are back in and ssooo much better. I feel like I'm sitting in the car again rather than on it.

Thanks for the responses all. Yep fully aware to stay away from newage seats, I think my head would be touching the roof if I did this! Out of interest has anyone fitted newage seats to classic frames?
Blu some clean RB5 seats would be nice but won't really go with Mica Green, the other issue is it seems only the UK turbos got folding rear seats.. which is something I find really handy so i'll need front seats that don't look out of place with the original black/grey rear bench.
Recaro's are cool but look better in earlier cars imo, the red/black/grey STi seats seem the best bet at the min if I can find some nice ones.
RS - great to hear you got the McRae, sounds like it worked out well for everyone! Get some pics up when you get it home, keen to see it!

I looked at putting the new age seats onto classic frames but they are totally different and could not find a way of doing it.
My classic seats are adjustable but are dark blue with the white inserts. I don't know if this was the only colour of seats for that year or not?

The UK rear 60/40 split/fold seats fit straight into Classic JDM cars. All the bolt holes are there and make a brilliant enhancement.
