Subaru Vs GTiR Pulsar
#1
I own a GTI-R and am lurking on this list as i would like a Type-R as my next car and am doing my homework before buying one.
Anyway regarding the 350+ you want from a GTI-R to get it to run reliably you will need something along the lines of:
Forged pistons std can take up to 1.4 bar but best not to risk it.£600 for JE or £800 for HKS
Front Mount IC easily attainable ex GTR32-33 fit nicely £150-£1000.
Metal head gasket would lower compression ratio thus allowing more boost also as a safety measure. £180
Boost controller Apexi AVC-R or HKS EVC-IV, Greddy Profec etc. All about £380-£500.
New turbo as the std will only flow upto 350 (record stands at 342 with std turbo) need a more bigger one! HKS do v. nice GT 3037 for £2500 but this would take you into 425hp etc Something like a T3 these are about £1200. Tubular manifold £700+
Air filter anything like K&N, HKS, Trust, Airinx, etc. doesnt really matter. £80-£200
Exhaust 2.5"+ from turbo back i.e mongoose, v popular as it is cheap £390 SS and v loud!
Wheels 16/17" you know the score.
Suspension lowered GAB shocks £650, Nismo £550, springs £140.
Clutch std one slips @ 260hp so take your pick, AP racing Organic good for 290lb/ft+ which is what you would realistically be looking at £260+vat. If you want more powerhandling HKS, Nismo & Cusco all do clutches rated to about 400lb/ft but are about £550. All excludes fitting of about £300.
Brakes these need uprating!! Godspeed 4-pot + 2piece disks 308mm are good @ £550. otherwise Hi-spec do wilwood dynalites for £650 & 305mm 2 piece, then are AP same price as scooby.
At 350 you would need an oil cooler £150+.
Also the gearbox wont like 7000rpm starts so either go for Quaife or becker uprated sets @£2000.

Peter,
A friend of mine is currently selling his modded GTiR. It's got a few HKS bits (chip, filter, boost controller), stainless steel exhaust, uprated suspension etc. It's been dyno'd at about 300 bhp.
Drop him a line at jj_gtir@hotmail.com if you're interested.

Peter,
You may onsider checking out the GTiR Owners Club site and eGroups list etc. to get the info. you need and maybe find a car that is 'done' ready to go.
Many of the GTiR's in the club are modified going on heavily modified. There are a few 330 - 350bhp cars around and they are real monsters
But to be honest, I think you will find the insurance on a heavily modified GTiR to be just as bad as a modified Subaru
But anyway, some links for you:
