Had the same problem on my classic a few weeks back but both map lights were not working. Pop the cover off from the windscreen side there are grooves to do this and you can check the bulbs that way. Both mine were fine they had just slipped from their cradle. So took them out gave them a wipe inserted them back into the cradle and hey presto they both now work. Try that first fella it's a quick fix then hopefully.

As above, they do have a habit of loosing good contact even when aparantly well seated. I 'got round' to changing mine the other day, only to find a quick twist of the old ones and they were fine.
