Christmas Day Classic write-off
Firstly Merry Christmas everybody! On our way out for dinner, I braked and stopped easily as an ambulance came towards me, but the focus behind didn't! Rear bumper drivers side damage pushed forward. I opened my boot to inspect and couldn't shut again without real force as there is a crease in back panel! Looks like an insurance write-off in my MY99 uk turbo classic! Gutted!... My young boys were ok in the back! But what now? Obviously contacting insurance co. who will write off, if they lets buy back would need to be jigged, but couldn't be runaround in it it until I buy another! Love my classic but not sure whether to go for a newer version or a later classic!

Which is the exact reason we all have to pay more for insurance in the first place amongst other cons.
Depends on condition of the car and what mods otherwise surely there's hardly anything worth breaking on a turbo 2000?

Not what you need on Christmas day! Glad that your all OK though especially with the kids in the back.
Getting the money back from the car and then buying it back also for stripping as mentioned is a good option, but be prepared for A. the insurers to offer you a silly price for your car (you may have to fight a bit to get it's true value back, remember you DON'T have to accept their first offer) and B. I don't think all insurance companies allow you to buy back, If not just take off any tasty bits you have on it with any resale value prior to it being taken away

You should definetly claim for whiplash everybody does it these days so insurance premiums are high regardless! Someone crashed into the back of me this time last year the way I looked at it is the amount I've paid in car insurance over the years it's only right to get a small amount of that money back

To the OP, sorry to hear about your car, hope you can get it sorted.
As for some of the other comments they are a perfect illustration of what is wrong with society today. No doubt you will all claim defrauding an insurance company is a victimless crime and everyone does it so why shouldn't you etc. etc. Just like all the other crimes people commit and invent ways tyo justify to themselves why it is OK!
Well leaving aside the fact that insurance premiums would probably be half what they are now if this was stamped out it is fraud and that carries a prison sentence if you are found guilty, hopefully that gives you a hint that it is a crime!!
The very fact that people casually post on a forum suggesting it like it's no big deal shows how far society has fallen!

I'd be interested in an opinion from one of the many Scoobynet locals who work in insurance.

Firstly, I'm glad that everyone seems to be OK.
The principle in law is that you aren't left out of pocket as the result of someone else's shortcomings - but of course Insurance companies seek to (severely) limit their payouts, and hence the poor policyholder often does lose out.
It was no doubt a traumatic experience, so there is the possibility of a small claim to cover that (which might go some way to bridging whatever gap there is between any offer and what a replacement would cost).
There is however a much simpler way.
Op - PM me if you wish and I'll tell you what I did when I was in much the same situation as you are now.
Finally, I hope it gets sorted quickly.

Contacted my insurance and the driver who hit me has admitted liability, so now to haggle!
Problem is i will prob get offered from £1,200 to£1,500 if I'm lucky. But to replace will cost up to about £2500 for a classic that is in reasonable condition!
If I buy back once the insurers have paid out, it still will need a lot of work done and won't be worth doing so for this model! Just been told I may get a nice hire car!!!!!... I wonder,....... A new hire scooby! Yh right a fookin nissan micra or ford focus!Lol

I would hold out for as much as possible, send them links to similar cars in similar condition.
Never accept the 1st offer.remember to tell them the car is your pride and joy etc etc.
Get the payout and keep the salvage,if you go classic again you can keep a load of spares for yourself if not then break it

Cant believe the negative feed back from my comment!
1. Premiums will not change from this one instance as there are hundreds of thousand's claiming every year!
2. As said in a previous statement the whiplash money will pay for a new scoob outright (no brainer imo)
3. If ya cant beat them join them I say

That's the whole point though, everyone's doing it.
Hopefully they've brought in the new law where you have to go and see a doctor for a true evaluation intstead of some legal scumbag who gets money to say " yeah you have whiplash "
IF everyone stopped claiming then EVERYONES insurance would eventually come down, paying inflated insurance premiums is a big hit when you're running two cars and a work van oh and a bike lol.
